Data Collection

What is Data Collection? Data collection is the process of collecting and analyzing information on relevant variables in a predetermined, methodical way so that one can respond to specific research questions, test hypotheses, and assess results.

Primary Sources of Data Collection All kind of data is collected directly from the original source or firsthand. The most direct evidence of a time or event.

Surveys and Questionnaires Observation and field notes Interviews and focus groups Original documents 03 01 02 04 Examples Of primary sources includes: that are administered to a sample group. taken by the researcher during a study. with individuals or experts on a topic Such as manuscripts, census records or historical documents.

SECONDARY SOURCES OF DATA COLLECTION Data that has been collected through primary sources that has been collected and analyzed before. Or in other words, it is a data that is collected by someone other than the primary user

Examples Of secondary sources includes: Books, articles, and other published materials that summarize or analyze primary sources. Statistical report and databases compiled by government agencies or other organizations. Online resources, such as encyclopedias or Wikipedia, which often relies on information from primary resources.

Data Collection methods

DIRECT INTERVIEW METHOD In this method, there is a face-to-face contact with the persons from whom the information is to be obtained (known as informants). The interviewer asks them questions pertaining to the survey and collects the desired information.

Phone Interview Focus group Structured Interview Unstructured Interview ( Informal Interviews ) Personal Interviews Online Interview relies on open-ended questions, which encourages a longer answer. allows to collect data quickly from large group of projects through video chat applications. Examples Of Direct Interview method includes: group of individuals interviewed at the same time. compromises of closed-ended questions, answered with yes or no. one-on-one interaction between the interviewer and the respondent. an inexpensive method making it ideal if you want to collect data quickly. Semi-Structured Interview combination of both structured and unstructured interviews, this method follows a general plan and set of questions and has more flexibility than Structured Interviews.

INDirect Interview Method These interviews are useful in obtaining a clearer understanding of the problem and determining what areas should be investigated. It is more convenient and less time-consuming than the direct method, but it may be less accurate due to that lack of interaction with the researcher.

Surveys Focus groups Exit Interviews External reviewers EXAMPLES OF INDIRECT METHOD INCLUDES:

Involves collecting data by systematically recording observations or measurements over a period of time. It is important for the researcher to carefully define the variables that are being measured and to ensure that the data is being collected consistently. REGISTRATION METHOD

EXAMPLES OF REGISTRATION METHOD INCLUDES: Civil Status Collection of Birth Certificate (NSO) Cedula etc.,

EXPERIMENTAL METHOD Involves manipulating one or more variables in a study to observe the effect on a dependent variable. It is important for the researcher to carefully control the conditions of the experiment and to use appropriate statistical techniques to analyze the results.

This method is commonly used in scientific research to establish cause-and-effect relationships. Researchers use control groups and random assignment to ensure that the results of the experiment are not influenced by other factors. EXAMPLES OF EXPERIMENTAL METHOD INCLUDES:
