Resources.
Based on
origin.
Based on
exhaustibility.
Based on
ownership.
Based on the
status of
development.

Classification of resources –
(Based on origin.)
▪Onthebasisoforigin–
▪Bioticresources–Alltheresourcesinthe
biospherehavinglife.Example–Human
beings,plants,animals,etc.
▪Abioticresources–Alltheresourcesin
naturewhichdonothavelife.Example–
Soil,water,air,etc.

Classification of resources –
(Based on exhaustibility.)
▪Onthebasisofexhaustibility–
▪Renewableresources–Thoseresources

–Solarenergy,biomass,timber,etc.
▪Non-renewableresources–Thoseresources

Classification of resources –
(Based on ownership.)
▪Onthebasisofownership–
▪Individualresources–Theresourcesthatare
privatelyownedbyanindividual.Example–
House,car,etc.
▪Communityownedresources–Allthose
resourceswhichareownedbyagroupof

Example–Park,burialgrounds,etc.
▪NationalResources–Theresourceswhich
belongtoanationortothegovernment.
Example–Forests,mountains,wildlife
reserves,etc.
▪Internationalresources–Theresources

Classification of resources –
(Based on status of development.)

Depletion of resources –
▪ResourceDepletionoccurswhenthe

▪Thetermresourcedepletionis
commonlyassociatedwithwater

andfishing.

DEPLETIONOFRESOURCES

Causes of depletion of resources –
Causes of depletion of
resources.
Overpopulation.
Poor farming practices.
Logging.
Overconsumption of
natural resources.
Pollution.
Industrial and technological
development.
22-02-2021 11

Effects of depletion of natural resources –
Effects of depletion
of resources.
Water shortages.
Oil depletion.
Loss of forest
cover.
Depletion of
minerals.
Extinction of
species.
22-02-2021 12

Conservation of resources –
22-02-2021 13
▪Conservationistheproper
managementofanaturalresourceto
preventitsexploitation,destructionor
degradation.
▪Sumtotaloftheactivities,whichcan
derivebenefitsfromnaturalresources

degradation.

Types of conservation of resources –
Conservation of
resources.
Soil. Water.
Biodiversity. Wildlife.
22-02-2021 14

Need for conservation of resources –
22-02-2021 15
▪Asthehumanpopulationiscontinuouslygrowingtheconsumptionofnatural
resourcesisalsoincreasing.
▪Withincreasingindustrializationandurbanizationofthemodernhumansocietythe
useofalltheresourcesisrising.
▪Iftheresourcesarenotproperlyusedorwellmanagedaseriousscarcitywillevolve.
Therefore, we need to conserve natural resources, this will also upset the ecological
balance.

Some of the major needs of conservation –
▪To maintain ecological balance for supporting life.
▪To preserve different kinds of species (biodiversity).
▪To make the resources available for present and future generation.
▪To ensure the survival of human race.
22-02-2021 16
