Resources
Utility or usability is what makes an object or substance a resource
All resources have some value.
Value means worth. Some resources have economic value (metals), some do
not (beautiful landscape).
Some resources can become economically valuable with time. If home
remedies are patented and sold tomorrow, they could become
economically VALUABLE
PATENT-It means the exclusive right over any idea or invention
MAHENDRA PAREEK 3

Time and technology are two important factors that can change
substances into resources
It is HUMAN`S ideas, knowledge, inventions and discoveries that lead to
the creation of more resources.
MAHENDRA PAREEK 4

Types of Resources:
Natural
MAHENDRA PAREEK 5

Types of Resources :
NATURAL
1 Natural -Resources that are drawn from Nature and
used without much modification are called natural
resources . Like air, water, lakes, soil and minerals
1A -Renewable resources are those which get renewed
or replenished quickly. These are not affected by
human activities such as solar and wind energy
1B-Non-renewable resources are those which have a
limited stock. Once the stocks are exhausted it may
take thousands of years (life>) to be renewed or
replenished.
Examples-Coal, petroleum and natural gas.
MAHENDRA PAREEK 6

The distribution of natural resources depends upon number of physical factors
like terrain, climate and altitude. The distribution of resources is unequal
because these factors differ so much over the earth.
MAHENDRA PAREEK 7

Types of Resources: Human made
MAHENDRA PAREEK 8

Types of Resources
2. Human Made -Natural substances become resources only when their
original form has been changed.
Hematite (Iron ore) ______extract iron from it.
Buildings (cement, bricks), bridges (cement, iron), roads, machinery and
vehicles, which are known as human made resources.
Technology is also a human made resource.
MAHENDRA PAREEK 9

Types of Resources : Human.
MAHENDRA PAREEK 10

Types of Resources
3. Human Resources -People can make the best use of nature to create more
resources when they have the knowledge, skill and the technology to do
so. That is why human beings are a special resource. People are human
resources. and health help in making people a valuable resource.
Improving the quality of people’s skillsthroughEducationso that they are
able to create more resources is known as human resource development

Conserving Resources
Using resources carefully and giving them time to get renewed is called
resource conservation
Sustainable development
Sustainable economic development means development should
take place without damaging the environment, and development in the
present should not compromise with the needs of the future generations.’
MAHENDRA PAREEK 13

it is our duty to ensure that :
• all uses of renewable resources are sustainable
• the diversity of life on the earth is conserved
• the damage to natural environmental system is minimized.
