Revit MEP M.R.Hariharan

MEP It Controls the following elements in the building.. M = Mechanical (Air Based) = HVAC(Heat Ventilation & Air conditioning) E = Electrical (Current Based) = Power Circuit, Lighting Circuit, CCTV Cameras, Fire Alarm System. P = Plumbing (Water Based) = Domestic hot Water Supply , Domestic Cold Water Supply, Fire Protection System, Sanitary System.

Basics of Engineering Graphics Views Scale Projection(Widely used in Part, Assembly Drawing of Mechanical parts)

Views 2D View - Top, Bottom, Right, Left, front, Back.(These are the names not used in Architectural & MEP Drawings) Top = Plan view, Right Side Elevation = East, Left Side Elevation = West, Front Elevation = South, Back Elevation = North 3D View – Isometric View, Trimetric View, Dimetric View, Perspective View.

Revit MEP Revit is the software We are used to design a MEP Model. Revit is the 4D BIM software Revit Architecture – Create a 3d Elevation of a Building Revit Structure – Structural Design and Analysis Revit MEP – Design Duct System, Piping, wiring… etc in Building

BIM(Building Information Modelling) Building Information Modelling  ( BIM ) is an intelligent 3D model-based process that gives architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.

Revit History Charles River Software  was founded on October 31, 1997 key developers of  PTC 's  Pro/Engineer  software for mechanical design, with the intent of bringing the power of  parametric modelling  to the building industry The company was renamed  Revit Technology Corporation  in January 2000. Revit version 1.0 was released on April 5, 2000 Autodesk, best known for its  AutoCAD  line of products, purchased the Massachusetts-based Revit Technology Corporation for US$133 million in 2002 Autodesk has released several versions of Revit since 2004. 2005 Revit Structure was introduced, then in 2006 Revit MEP. After the 2006 release  Revit Building  was renamed Revit Architecture Revit 2013 the different disciplines have been rolled into one product, simply called Revit . Latest Version is Revit 2021.

Revit File Types Template Files - .rte Project Files - .rvt Family Files - .rfa Family Template Files - .rft

Element Types Model Element Host Element (ex: Wall, Duct) Component Element (ex: Fan, Switches ) Annotation Element (ex: Dimension, Text) Datum Element (ex: Level, Grid) View Element (ex: Types of views)

Types of Families System Families(Non Loadable Families) - System families create basic elements Examples : Walls , roofs, floors , Ducts , pipes. Component Families(Loadable Families) - Loadable families are families used to create such as windows, doors , boilers , water heaters, air handlers, and plumbing fixtures. In-Place Families(Draw Families) - In-place elements are unique elements that you create when you need to create a unique component that is specific to the current project.

Designing in Revit MEP In 3D offset method(not able to give height) In 2D height length is possible

Heating and Cooling Load Analysis Ton of Refrigeration: Amount of heat extracted in a given time from a body. The melting of 1 tone of ice from and at 0 C in 24 hours.( Heat Added ) Heat is Required to be removed to freeze one ton of water from at C in 24 hours. American unit this is equal to Removal of 200 BTU of Heat per minute. ( 200 BTU/min ) In S.I. unit its conversion is rounded of to 3.5KJ/s ( kw ) or 210 kJ/min . 1 btu ( British Thermal Units) = 1055.056 joules. for one Hour = 60 x 200 BTU/min = 12000 BTU/hr. So, One Ton of Refrigeration = 12000 BTU/hr.

Factors affecting the Heating and cooling Load Human = Load (Sensible heat, Latent heat) , No. of Person in a room, Scheduling in percentage. Lighting = Load in Watts, Scheduling in percentage . Power = Load in Watts, Scheduling in percentage . Building Envelope = Wall, Window , Door ,Roof.

CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute)

Building Infiltration Class Specifies an estimate of outdoor air that enters the building through leaks in the Building envelope. Loose – 0.076 cfm/sqft for tightly constructed walls. Medium – 0.038 cfm/sqft for tightly constructed walls. Tight – 0.019 cfm/sqft for tightly constructed walls. None – Infiltration is excluded from the calculation of loads.

HVAC Theory HVAC : Heating , Ventilation & Air Conditioning is the technology of indoor and vehicular Environment . Its goal is to provide thermal comfort and acceptable indoor air quality. Air Conditioning : A system for controlling the humidity ventilation & temperature in a building, typically to maintain a cool atmosphere in warm conditions. (or) Air Conditioning is the process of removing heat from space. According to the arrangement of air conditioning equipment 1. Unitary Air Conditioning System [Room or Window type Air Conditioner] 2. Central Air Conditioning System

Hydronic System Hydronics  (hydro- meaning "water") is the use of liquid water or gaseous water (steam) or a water solution (usually glycol with water) as heat-transfer medium in  heating  and  cooling systems There are two types of system classification used in Hydronic System. 1.Hydronic Supply 2.Hydronic Return There are two types of Hydronics System 1.Cooling System 2.Heating System.

System Classification in Hydronics Hydronic Supply : It has the ability to transfer the heat. Hydronic Return : It needs or does not having the ability to transfer the heat. For Example, Hydronic Supply in: AHU in Hydronic Return out: AHU out Hydronic Return in: Chiller in Hydronic Supply out: Chiller Out.

Cooling System & Heating System Chiller is the main component in the Cooling System. 1.Air Cooled Chiller 2.Water Cooled Chiller (Cooling Tower) 3.Absorption Chiller. (Cooling Tower, Boiler) Boiler is the main component in the Heating System.
