Bringing world class research to Afghanistan. RIST is based in UK and it has been established by leading research professionals who are passionate about research and have different RIST centres in various countries such as Egypt, Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Oman AIM..
THE FOCUS Research plays a key role in the economy development as well as the country growth thus the focus is to setup a world class research platform in Afghanistan that enables us to contributes research and development internationally. RIST is non-profit organization that exhibits research excellence by bringing international experts mentors from both industrial and scientific research. RIST offers multidisciplinary research themes which addresses state of the art research challenges as well as carries out industrial research for knowledge transfer. Partnering with Brunel University London, RIST enables you to pursue a PhD research programme as well as it offers short specialised courses in demanded areas. KEY ACADEMIC ADVISORS Professor Abdul Sadka , Director of Centre for Media Communications Research Professor Sadka has nearly 20 years’ worth of academic experience and a long track record of scientific leadership in the area of Video Processing and Communications. He is the former Head of the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering at Brunel University London and the Founding Director for the Centre for Media Communications Research. He has over 200 publications in refereed journals and conferences, 3 patents and a specialised book entitled \"Compressed Video Communications\" published by Wiley in 2002. To date, he has managed to attract circa £4M worth of research grants and contracts and has graduated 20 PhD students. He is widely supported by industry and runs his consultancy company VIDCOM. He is a fellow of the IET and senior member of the IEEE February 20, 2015 Research Institute for Science and Technology 6 Professor Hamed Al- Raweshidy , Director of Wireless Network Communications Centre Professor Al- Raweshidy has worked with The Space and Astronomy Research Centre (Iraq), PerkinElmer (USA), Carl Zeiss (Germany), British Telecom (UK), Oxford University, Manchester Met. University and Kent University. He has published over 300 papers in International Journals and referred conferences. He is the editor of the first book in Radio over Fibre Technologies for Mobile Communications Networks and contributed chapters for 6 books. He is currently the “Editor-in-Chief” of Communication Networks Journal (USA). He has acted as Guest editor for the International Journal of Wireless Personal Communications. He is a member of several Journal Editorial Boards such as Journal of Communications and Mobile Computing and Journal of Wireless Personal Communications.
KEY ACADEMIC ADVISORS Professor John Cosmas , D irector for MSc Advanced Multimedia Design and 3D Technologies Professor Cosmas worked for five years in industry first with Tube Investments and then with Fairchild Camera and Instruments. After completing his PhD, he worked for 13 years as a lecturer in digital systems and telecommunications at Queen Mary College, University of London. Since 1999, he has worked for Brunel University, first as a reader and then in 2002 as a Professor of multimedia systems. His current research interests are multimedia broadcast communications systems, which evolved from his longstanding interests in video codecs (MPEG 4/7), and mobile communication systems (DECT/GSM/GPRS/UMTS). Prof. Cosmas currently serves as associate editor for IEEE Trans. Broadcasting. He also contributes to the Digital TV Group’s “Mobile Applications” sub-group and to the Digital Video Broadcast’s Technical Module: Converged Broadcast and Mobile Services (CBMS). February 20, 2015 Pursuing Effective Research 7 Dr Tatiana Kalganova , Lecturer - Intelligent Systems / ERASMUS coordinator / Director of ECE International Partnerships, Industrial placement coordinator Dr Kalganova has worked and company multiple research projects in expert systems. Her main research fields in the industrial reearch involves of Artificial Intelligence and its real-life applications: Evolutionary Design and Optimisation , Evolvable hardware, Modelling and optimisation of Large Systems, Operational research, Robotics, Swarm optimisation .
