Measurement in Day-to-Day Activity 5 Measurement is essential because it helps us understand, communicate, compare, and control the world accurately and fairly. Measurement is the process of experimentally obtaining the magnitude of a quantity (e.g., length, mass, time) by comparing it with a standardized unit defined by the SI.
“If someone separated the art of counting and measuring and weighing from all the other arts, what was left of each (of the others) would be, so to speak, insignificant.” — Plato (4th Century B.C.) 6 “ By measurement to knowledge.” - Heike Kamerlingh Onnes (1882), 1913 Physics Nobel Laureate Importance of Measurement

Remote Measurement Systems Our traditional system or many current electric grid was designed and built decades ago using system design models and organizational principles that must be now restructured to meet the needs of a low-carbon and digital economy. The traditional architecture was based on large-scale generation remotely located from consumers, hierarchical control structures with minimal feedback, limited energy storage, and passive loads . This traditional system was not designed to meet many emerging trends. 10
