Rose bengal Is -4,5,6,7-tetrachloro-2 ',4',5',7'-tetraiodofluorescein It is a derivative of flurescein dye Is a brownish- red powder, available in stripes also Water soluble material

It will cross the cell membranes of dead cells or degenerated cells, but not living cells Its sodium salts commonly used in eye drops to stain damaged conjunctival and corneal cells, thereby identify damaged area
