7. Rourkela Steel Plant is located in Rourkela in the Indian state of . a unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd. India's first and main producer of steel rails, as well as a major producer of wide steel plates and other steel products Inaugurated at 1959 in collaboration with USSR eleven-times winner of the Prime Minister's Trophy for best integrated steel plant in the country Sole supplier of the country's longest rail tracks, which measure 260 metres (850 ft) Annual production capacity of 3.153 MT of saleable steel Covers an area of about 36 sq.kms Total Rail track inside – 365 KM SAIL’s most profitable plant

10. Electrical Repair Shop:- One of the key shop in the plant. For the repairment and maintenance of electric motors installed in whole plant. Around 40 thousand motors are installed in whole plant.

11. Electrical Repair Shop consists of different sections like Receive and Issue Section, Assembly Section , Winding Section , Coil section , Testing Section etc. also Consists of Magnet and Transformer Repair shop. main purpose of this shop is to repair the electric motors and after the reassembling , it is sent back to the respective shops.

Power System Department Main purpose of this section is to monitor , control and distribute Power to the whole plant Total of 280 MW load capacity in plant Seven Power system department to control electric power in plant Power is taken from three power plants i.e. PP1 , PP2 and PP3. PP3 is a joint venture of SAIL and NTPC ( NHPCL ) Power is controlled using electric yards components.

Plate Mill Plates of wide variety, in any required size, and strength, chemical and physical properties, can be produced here. capacity to produce high pressure, boiler quality and high tensile steels. Rourkela has the widest plate mill in the country, and it uses continuously cast slabs as input.

14. Production :- Capacity 9,50,000 T Plates thickness 8-120 mm Width 1500-3270 mm Length 5-12.5 M On 29th March,1983 , First Plate was produced from this Mill it has three Reheating furnace .

17. Achievements Eleven-times winner of the Prime Minister's Trophy for best integrated steel plant in the country. Greentech Safety Gold Award by Greentech Foundation for outstanding achievement in Safety Management to Rorkela Steel Plant National Safety Award to Bhilai Steel Plant announced by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India – 2008. BSP bagged the prestigious Golden Peacock National Quality Award 2011 conferred by institute of Directors on 28th january,2011. BSP has been awarded the Golden Peacock Eco-Innovation Award 2010 instituted by World Environment Foundation .
