Patient sits beside the x-ray table on a stool
The affected thumb should be rest on the cassette
The elbow is a straight and posterior surface of thumb on the film
Sand bag is put over the elbow
POSITION OF CASSETTE
The cassette is placed under the affected thumb
CENTERING
Central ray over the first metacarpo-phalangeal joint at the right angle to the film
Collimation should be used during exposure
RADIOLOGICAL APPEARANCE
The first metacarpals and two phalanges are clearly seen without any superimposing
EXPOSURE
Distance 90-100cm
Kv- 45 to 50
mAs – 2-4
