HOW TO USE THIS MODULE
Before starting this module, I want you to set aside other tasks that will disturb you
while enjoying the lessons. Read the simple instructions below to successfully enjoy
the objectives of this kit. Have fun!
1. Follow carefully all the contents and instructions indicated in every page of this
module.
2. Write on your notebook the concepts about the lessons. Writing enhances
learning, that is important to develop and keep in mind.
3. Perform all the provided activities in the module.
4. Answer all the activities on a separate sheet provided at the back part of this
module.
5. Let your facilitator/ guardian assess your answers using the answer key card.
6. Analyze conceptually the posttest and apply what you have learned.
7. Enjoy studying!
PARTS OF THE MODULE
Expectations – These are what you will be able to know after completing the
lessons in the module.
Pre-test – This will measure your prior knowledge and the concepts to be
mastered throughout the lesson.
Looking Back to your Lesson – This section will give you an overview of the
lesson.
Activities – This is a set of activities you will perform with a partner.
Remember – This section summarizes the concepts and applications of the
lessons.
Check your understanding – It will verify how you learned from the lesson.
Post-test – This will measure how much you have learned from the entire module.
MODULE 9: ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS
3
EXPECTATIONS
Living things like animals’ lives around our environment. An animal that lives in
water is called aquatic animals. Aquatic animals behave differently in other animals that live
on land. Their behavior helps them survive underwater. These animals have body
structures that enable them to adapt to their specific habitats for growth and survival, such
body parts are important to help them survive in water. An animal that lives in land is called
terrestrial animals. Terrestrial animals have different body structures too. Their body parts
are adaptive to land. They can walk, fly, crawl and run because of such parts. Terrestrial
animals breathe through their lungs.
The modules are lesson for animals survive in water or in land.
Lesson 1 – Body Parts of Animals that Live in Water
Lesson 2 – Body Parts of Animals that Live on Land
After going through this module, you are expected to:
A. Infer that body structures help animals adapt and survive in their particular habitat
(S4LT-IIc-d-5)
1. identify that animals have different body structures that
make them adapt to water or in land;
2. develop K-12 life skills such as communication, critical thinking, creativity,
collaboration and character.

Observe the animals in the aquarium they can
breathe in water. Their body covering is colorful, most
of the time glossy and you can see and compare each
body covering to one another. Where do they use it to
survive in their habitat? Let’s take a look.
Take a look on the parts use for breathing and
for moving.

Hi, I’m goldy the goldfish.
My body is full of slimy and
smooth gold scales. It is
arranged overlapping from
head to tail so as the water
slips smoothly as it moves
forward.
The scales cover me and
protect me from disease and
from other animals that lives
in the water like me.
Hi Ms. Bing here!
Today is my first day at work. We are going to visit
the different animals that lives in water. I am so
excited to show you my aquatic friends.
Come and follow me so you will learn about them.
Let’s go KIDS!!!

Hello, Poppy lobster is here to
serve you with my body
covering…. you know my body are
covered with outside skeleton. The
other name for outside skeleton is
exoskeleton.
My exoskeleton helps me survive
and cover myself in the water. My
habitat is surrounded with water.
ACTIVITY 1.1 Box the Objects. Complete the idea. Work with a partner. Box the correct
answer. Choose your answer inside the parenthesis.
1. Fish
A fish adapts in (water, land). Their body covers with (shell, scales) for
protection.
2. Underwater fish
An underwater fish uses their (gills, tail) for breathing. And fins for (walking,
swimming).
3. Shell
A shell is the body covering of (fish, clam). The shell (protect, infect) the soft
body of clam.
4. Lobster
A lobster habitat is surrounded by (grass, seas). The body covering is called
(exoskeleton, scales). It structures to survive in the water.
5. Squid, crabs and mussels
Squid, crabs and mussels are (aquatic animal, terrestrial animal). They
(destroy, adapt) themselves in the water.
Hello, I’m Clint the clam. I am covered with
shell. It surrounds my whole body to protect
me. I live in the seas. The sea is my habitat.
My body structure adapts in my environment.
My friend Mario and his friends the mussels
had shell body covering like me.

ACTIVITY 1.2. LET US STUDY AND ANALYZE THIS!
Aquatic Animals Body Parts. Read each box carefully. Put a check mark in the correct uses of
each body part.
Animals have body structures that help them adapt to water.
Fish are covered with scales for protection from diseases and from other
animals that live in water. Their scales are smooth and slimy, arranged
overlapping from head to tail so as the water slips smoothly as it moves
forward.
Shrimp and lobster are covered with outside skeleton or exoskeleton while
other animals like clams and mussels are covered with shells.
Fish have gills for breathing underwater and fins for swimming.
An adaptation is the structure or behavior that helps an organism survive
in its environment.
1. CONSTRUCTING A MODEL. Design and make a model of an animal that
has adaptation for living under water. Use indigenous materials if
possible. Explain how these adaptations would help the animal meet its
needs.
2. IMPORTANCE OF NATURAL HABITAT. Natural habitat are important to
aquatic animals. They are surrounded by bodies of water. In your own
ways. How will you help protect their living environment against other
possible danger?

Hi Kids Bam the Panda here. I am
here to introduce body parts of animals.
Can you help me identify them? After
identifying each part Ms. Bing will be
asking you what are their body parts and
their uses?
Let’s take a look at each part.
BRIEF INTRODUCTION
Have you ever wondered why some animals breathe on land and others do not? Let’s
have a short tour in the world of land animals.

ACTIVITY 2.1. Work with a partner! First column is for the uses of body parts. Write
the names of each body parts and draw the parts in the third column.
Animals have body structures that help them adapt to land.
Some animals are covered with fur to keep them warm. Others are
covered with feathers for flying. Some have smooth skin for breathing
like worms.
Most body coverings of animals are for protection.
Animals have body parts for moving like legs for walking and wings
for flying.
Land or terrestrial animals have lungs for breathing.
Uses of terrestrial
animal body parts
Name the body parts of
specific animal
Draw the parts.

ACTIVITY 2.2. LET US STUDY AND ANALYZE THIS! Read each sentence
carefully. Choose and write the correct answer in the answer sheet provided.
1. Animals covered with feathers [fly, walk] on land.
2. Animals on land run, walk and crawl. They use their [gills, lungs] to breath.
3. Animals like decomposer and worm are covered with [dry scales, smooth skin].
4. Dogs and cats have fur. They both have [two, four] legs.
5. Aquatic animals live on water. While terrestrial animal’s lives in [land, sky]
REMEMBER
Good Morning animal lovers. Based on your
investigation, what are the parts of the animals have
you seen? Can you also tell me the uses of each part?
Let’s start with the cat’s fur.
In the next activity you are going to think of a body part.
You can illustrate the parts with correct uses.

CHECK YOUR UNDERSTANDING
1. Make a picture collage of what you have learned. Paste 3 terrestrial animals in an
oslo paper. Below each picture indicate by drawing the parts they use to survive on
land.
2. Connectivity of terrestrial animals on land. What is the importance of letting land
animals live in their natural habitat?
