Branches of Science 02 Branches of Science
Science is a vast field of study that focuses on helping us to better understand the world around us, from how the cells in our bodies work to the life cycles of stars. Science includes many different disciplines, and learning about them helps people to solve problems in our lives, invent new things, and appreciate the complexity of our world.
Physical Science is a major branch of science that examines the non-living world and often involves forming laws of how the physical world interacts. There are three subsets in physical science that include chemistry, physics, and astronomy. These sciences will examine the physical interactions between earth and life. Overall Explanation aiming to understand its properties and unravel universal phenomena. Experts in this field conduct innovative research to reveal fresh knowledge about how matter functions.
Chemistry The science that deals with the composition, properties, reactions, and the structure of matter. The chemist Louis Pasteur, for example, discovered pasteurization, which is the process of heating liquids such as milk and orange juice to kill harmful germs. Physics Astronomy Astronomy: The study of the universe beyond the Earth's atmosphere. Undoubtedly among the most famous astronomers of all time, Galileo constructed a simple refracting telescope in 1610 and became the first person to use a spy-glass for astronomy. The study of matter and energy and the interactions between them. Physicists study such subjects as gravity, light, and time. Albert Einstein, a famous physicist, developed the Theory of Relativity.
Chemistry the study of matter including its properties, composition, and reactions Chemistry focuses on examining elements and their compositions and chemicals and how the chemicals react with each other. Chemistry is the study of substances and how they change when they are combined. Chemists can help us understand things like why metal rusts and how baked goods rise in the oven. Some chemists use their knowledge to invent new materials, like plastics and medicines. Subfields in chemistry include organic chemistry, which is centered on things that contain carbon; inorganic chemistry, which studies non-living things biochemistry, which examines the chemical processes that take place inside of living things. Careers in Physics Chemical Technician Analytical Chemist Material Scientist Toxicologist Biochemist Chemistry Instructor.
Chemists are scientists who study and analyze the chemical compositions of various substances and study how they form and interact with other materials. They use advanced software, analytical tools, and other forms of instrumentation to conduct experiments and quality control tests, produce technical reports, and refine materials. There are many specialties within chemistry, including biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. Chemists can work in a variety of job sectors such as academia, government, industry, and nonprofit.
Physics Physics is the study of matter and energy and the forces that act on both. Physics explains things like why a dropped object falls to the ground and why planets orbit the sun. This field includes many subfields. For instance, astrophysics studies stars and galaxies, thermodynamics focuses on how energy moves from one place or form to another, and quantum physics looks at the tiniest particles that make up everything in the universe. Careers in Physics Research Assistant Systems Analysis Engineer Applied Physicist Nuclear Engineer
Physicists study the universe and everything in it, from the very small (quantum) to the very large (cosmology). A physicist explores and identifies the basic principles that govern the structure and behaviour of matter, the interaction between energy and matter, and the generation and transfer of energy. These principles can be used in both theoretical and practical areas. There are a variety of specialties within physics such as nuclear physics, geophysics, astrophysics, engineering, atomic, molecular, and optical physics. Physicists can work in a variety of job sectors such as academia, government, industry, and nonprofit.
Comparison Physics the focus is on how matter is affected by energy and motion. For instance, Sir Isaac Newton developed many laws that focus on how motion will consistently affect different objects such as the Law of Inertia. Chemistry the study of substances and how they change when they are combined.
Astronomy Astronomy is the study of other objects outside the Earth's atmosphere including moons, stars, and other planets. There are many galaxies and space objects in the universe that have yet to be explored. Astronomy uses both chemistry and physics to explore objects in space. For instance, what chemicals make up stars or planets and the physics of how planets rotate or revolve. study of everything in the universe beyond Earth's atmosphere. That includes objects we can see with our naked eyes, like the Sun , the Moon , the planets, and the stars . It also includes objects we can only see with telescopes or other instruments, like faraway galaxies and tiny particles. Careers in Physics Physicists Astrophysicists Astronomers Planetarium Directors Aeronautical engineers Research scientists astronomy professors Meteorologists
Life Science This type of science studies how living things function and reproduce . Overall Explanation are concerned with living creatures and their environment .
Zoology the study of animals, including their biology, behavior , evolution, and natural environments. It's a branch of biology that covers a wide range of topics, including: Individual animals: Zoologists study the parts of individual animals, even down to the molecular level. Animal populations: Zoologists study animal populations and faunas. Animal relationships: Zoologists study how animals relate to each other, to plants, and to the non-living environment. Overall: the study of all animals of all shapes and sizes, from tiny insects to large mammals. Zoologists investigate what animals eat and how they live, and how animals interact with their habitats.
Biology The study of living organisms and involves the study of life in the natural world. This comprises topics such as the cell, genes, inheritance, germs, plants, animals, and the human body. Biologists study the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, distribution, and taxonomy of living organisms. Overall: is defined as the science of life and living organisms.
Careers in Biology Virologist Academic researcher Biotechnologist Higher education lecturer Marine biologist Microbiologist Nature conservation officer Pharmacologist Research scientist (life sciences) Scientific laboratory technician Secondary school teacher Soil scientist Water quality scientist
Botany The study of plant growth [what hinders and helps it] includes the study of plants' structure, function, classification, and interactions with the environment. Plant function: How plants function and evolve Plant appearance: What plants look like Plant relationships: How plants are related to each other Plant growth: Where plants grow and how they respond to environmental cues Plant use: How people use plants Plant diseases: How plants get sick Plant-environment interactions: How plants interact with their environment Overall function: —how plants function, what they look like, how they are related to each other, where they grow, how people make use of plants, and how plants evolved.
Careers in Botany Park ranger Naturalists Botanical curators Botany professors Botanical researchers, or botanists
Ecology the scientific study of the interactions of living things with each other and their relationships with the environment. Overall: has a broader scope, because it includes both organisms and their environments. Examining the interactions between organisms and the environment can provide a basic understanding of the richness of life on earth and can help us understand how to protect that richness, which is increasingly threatened by human activity. .
