Weather Report

Write W if the statement describes the weather and C if it describes the climate. 1. It happens at a very short period of time-even only for a day. 2. It occurs for a long period of time. 3. It is the average weather in a place over many years. 4. It varies from day to day and from one place to another. 5. Is the combination of temperature, moisture, wind and sunshine at a place over a period of years.

What is a meteorologist? A meteorologist is an individual with specialized education who uses scientific principles to explain, understand, observe or forecast the earth's atmospheric phenomena and/or how the atmosphere affects the earth and life on the planet.

What is a meteorologist? A meteorologist is a scientist who studies weather; and may, like a weather presenter (who often are not scientists) engage in weather forecasting, or may solely conduct research.

Barometer An instrument measuring atmospheric pressure, used especially in forecasting the weather and determining altitude .

AIR PRESSURE Air pressure refers to the weight of the air that is pressing down the Earth. Convection – the rising of warm air and sinking of cold air. Convection explains how high pressure area and low pressure area form.

AIR PRESSURE When cold air sinks, it creates a high pressure area . Since most of the air is pressing down, the air on the surface becomes dry . Formation of high pressure area indicates a fair weather since fewer clouds are found on the sky.

AIR PRESSURE When the warm air rises, less air presses downward and results to the formation of Low Pressure Area . As the air continuously rises, it will eventually cool, condense , and form clouds.

AIR PRESSURE Formation of clouds indicates the possibility of rain. There is a higher chance of rain when more clouds are formed. Rains and strong winds, brought about by low pressure, can create weather disturbances .

A low pressure area usually begins to form as air from two regions collides and is forced upward. The rising air creates a giant vacuum effect. Hence, a zone of low pressure is produced with the lowest pressure near the center of the storm. As a storm approaches a particular area, the atmospheric pressure will lower .

In some sensitive people, body aches may be more severe due to the pressure change. As the air in the storm rises, it cools. As the air cools, moisture within the air condenses to form clouds and rain and snow. Falling atmospheric pressure, or the approach of a low pressure area, is often an indicator of rain, ice and snow arriving soon.

True or False. 1. A meteorologist is a scientist who studies weather. 2. When the warm air rises, less air presses downward and results to the formation of High-Pressure Area. 3. Rising atmospheric pressure, or the approach of a low-pressure area, is often an indicator of rain. 4. There is a higher chance of rain when more clouds are formed. 5. Rains and strong winds, brought about by low pressure, can create weather disturbances

Write the correct word to complete the sentences. 1. A ___________ is a scientist who studies weather. 2. ____________ refers to the weight of the air that is pressing down the Earth. 3. _____________ is the rising of warm air and sinking of cold air. 4. When cold air sinks, it creates a _______________. 5. When the warm air rises, less air presses downward and results to the formation of ______________________.
