Jesus Heals a Man on a Sabbath Day One Sabbath day, Jesus came into the synagogue and saw a man with a paralyzed arm. All the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were looking at Jesus. They whispered to one another, "Surely he knows that it is against the Law of Moses to do any work on the Sabbath. He cannot perform a miracle on the day of rest!"
Every Jewish family took the Sabbath Rest seriously because God wanted it to symbolize the freedom from slavery that he gave to his people. But the Pharisees had created long lists of what to do and what not to do on this day. They were looking at Jesus because they thought he was about to break their rules in front of the people.
The man hid his paralyzed arm, feeling ashamed and afraid. But Jesus looked at him with great love. "Come and stand here," said Jesus. The man stood and walked towards Jesus.
"I'll ask you a question," Jesus suddenly said to the Pharisees. "Tell me this: "Which is the way to keep the rules of the Sabbath? Is it better to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?’’
They could not answer him. But everyone in the synagogue knew that the Sabbath was God's day, and that meant it was a day to do good things. Jesus turned to the man and said, "Stretch out your hand." The man obeyed, and his arm was healed at once. Tears filled his eyes. He could hardly believe that something so wonderful had happened to him. The Pharisees, however, were enraged and began plotting to destroy Jesus.

Jesus is not a lawbreaker. He showed the people how to observe the Sabbath day. The Pharisees envied Jesus for being able to do such a miracle. They didn't want people to admire Jesus. Jesus wants us to think very well about what happens in our everyday lives. He wants us to analyze things before we make any judgment or decision.
Write True if the statement is correct and False if it is wrong. Jesus respects the Sabbath day. Jesus does not want us to do any good deed on the Sabbath day. The Pharisees honor the Sabbath day correctly. The Sabbath day is a day of rest. Jesus wants us to analyze every event that happens in our lives.
