Slide Content

INTELLECTUAL REVOLUTION | SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIETY

REVOLUTION • This means "Sudden Change" Because of Science and Technology, coinciding with Intellectual Thinkers, there will always be changes in how we think about our world. These revolutions has and will always define our society • Synonymous to what we know as Paradigm Shift

■ The discoveries and inventions in science and technology during each time period were due to human needs and wants. ■ Brilliant minds responded to the call of the times and created things that could not make life easier for the people. ■ Much of these events happened in a period now known as the Intellectual Revolution. ■ Society was transformed by Science and Technology

COPERNICUS REVOLUTION Nicolaus Copernicus (1473 1543) A Polish Mathematician and Astronomer He proposed that the sun is stationary and is the center of the universe and earth revolved around it This is the heliocentric model; from the term it means helios - sun and centric as center Birth of modern astronomy

COPERNICUS REVOLUTION Why do we have days and nights? Many Greek philosophers and intellectuals wrote about planets in an attempt to explain the movements of Heavenly bodies like stars, moons and planets, and what are their effects on the world as they know it. Many of these philosophers agreed that planets moved around in circular motion. Claudius Ptolemy stated that planets, as well as the sun, and the moon, moved in circular motion around the earth ( Geocentrism ).

CLADIUS PTOLEMY Ptolemy (100 AD) Before Nicolaus Copernicus His work was the one replaced by Copernicus' work He made the geocentric model; from the term it means geo - earth and centric as center

DARWINIAN REVOLUTION Charles Darwin (1809-1882) • An English naturalist, geologist, and biologist, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution • He had 2 evolution theories: Origin of the Species Descent of man

DARWINIAN REVOLUTION Introduced the theory of evolution, which posited that populations pass through a process of natural selection in which only the fittest would survive. Stated that organisms have the ability to adapt to their environment and would gradually change into something that would be more competitive to survive, a process called evolution.

FRUEDIAN REVOLUTION Sigmund Freud (19th Century) Was able to change people's perception of Psychology with his revolutionary theory of psychoanalysis, a study that explains human behaviour . He argued that personality is a product of three conflicting elements: id, ego, superego.

FRUEDIAN REVOLUTION introduced the idea that unconscious forces drive human behavior.
