THE Scientific Method

The methods of Science How do scientists answer questions and solve problem They use the Scientific method The Scientific Method can be applied to ANY testable questions! NOT JUST SCIENCE QUESTIONS! Who uses it? Everyone uses it everyday. Even YOU!!!

1. Observation 2. Questioning 3. Hypothesizing and predicting 4. Experimenting 5. Collecting and Analyzing Results 6. Conclusion 7. Publishing the Results Steps of the Scientific Method

What is the Scientific Method? Making Observations Information gathered by sight, sound, smell, or touch

What is the Scientific Method? Developing questions based on the observation that can be solved through experimentation. Example: Does exercise make your heart beat faster? Do plants need water to grow?

What is the Scientific Method? Writing a Hypothesis and predicting A testable explanation for an observation. Predict a possible answer to the problem or question. Example : If fertilizer is added to soil, then plant growth will increase .

What is the Scientific Method? Experimenting Test hypothesis under controlled conditions. Only change one factor (variable) All experiments should have a control group . Control Group Is exposed to the same conditions as the experimental group, except for the variable being tested. serves as the standard of comparison.

1)

What is the Scientific Method? Analy ze Results Organize data from experiment into graphs or tables

What is the Scientific Method? Draw Conclusions Compare the results with the hypothesis If the results do not support the scientist's hypothesis, they need to go back and revise their hypothesis and test again. Publishing Results Be prepared to present the project to an audience.
