WHAT IS Scratch is a block-based visual programming language created by MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). It is designed mainly for beginners—especially students and young learners—to help them learn the basics of coding, logic, and problem-solving in a fun and creative way. SCRATCH?
WHAT IS Scratch uses drag-and-drop coding blocks that fit together like puzzle pieces. This makes it easy to create interactive stories, animations, games, and music projects. SCRATCH?
STAGE DISPLAY AREA In Scratch, the Stage (Display Area) is the big white rectangle on the right side of the screen where your sprites, backgrounds, and animations appear.
SCRATCH SPRITES Sprites are images or characters (like the Scratch Cat , people, animals, objects, etc.) that perform actions in your project. How do Sprites work? You use coding blocks (Motion, Looks, Sound, etc.) to make sprites move, talk, change costumes, or interact with other sprites.
CODE BLOCKS Main Categories of Scratch Code Blocks are the colorful puzzle pieces that you drag and snap together to give instructions to your sprites and stage. They replace typing code, making programming easy and fun.
Motion (Blue) Makes the sprite move, turn, or go to a position. Looks (Purple) Changes how the sprite looks or appears. Sound (Pink) Plays music or sound effects. Events (Yellow) Start actions based on triggers. Control (Orange) Adds loops and conditions. Sensing (Light Blue) Detects interactions or changes.
Operators (Green) Handles math, logic, and text. Variables (Dark Orange) Stores values like score, time, or health. Custom (Pink) Customize animated sprite.
