2. Phenobarbitone Physical Properties: It is a white ,glistering, small crystalline or white crystallline powder, It is odourless and has slightly bitter taste. It is very slightly soluble in water and soluble in alcohol and in solution of alkali hydroxide and carbonates Its sodium salt phenobarbitone sodium is white crystalline powder,odourless and has bitter taste. It is hygroscopic and very soluble in water Storage: Phenobarbitone is a stable compound Phenobarbitone Sodium is hygroscopic and hence is stored in tightly closed container.

3. Phenobarbitone Uses: It is used as a sedative in nervous insomnia, anxiety states,dysmenorrhoea,and thyrotoxicosis. is anticonvulsants and used to treat grandmal and psychomotor epilepsy.
