01 Semikonduktor Zat padat atau maerial padat yang memiliki sifat kelistrikan di antara konduktor dan isolator. Sering disebut sebagai bahan setengah penghantar listrik karena semikonduktor merupakan penghantar listrik yang berada di antara konduktor dan isolator Di semikonduktor biasanya terdiri atas atom golongan 4 karena memiliki 4 electron valensi , contoh : silicon dan germanium
Semikonduktor Intrinsik Mekanisme terbentuknya semikonduktor intrinsik diperlihatkan pada semikonduktor murni seperti SI. Pada kondisi normal atom-atom SI saling berkaitan melalui empat ikatan kovalen ketika suhu dinaikkan maka stimulasi panas akan mengganggu ikatan valensi ini sehingga salah satu elektron valensi akan berpindah ke pita konduksi . L okasi yang ditinggalkan oleh elektron valensi ini akan membuat Hole. pasangan hole dan elektron ini menjadi pembawa muatan dalam semikonduktor intrinsik .
Semikonduktor ekstrinsik Tipe n Semikonduktor tipe -n dapat dibuat dengan menambahkan sejumlah atom pengotor pentavalent pada silikon murni (phosphorus atau arsenic). Atom-atom pengotor ini mempunyai lima elektron valensi . Saat sebuah atom pentavalen menempati posisi atom silikon dalam kisi kristal , hanya empat elektron valensi yang dapat membentuk ikatan kovalen lengkap , dan tersisa sebuah elektron yang tidak berpasangan . Dengan adanya energi thermal yang kecil saja , sisa elektron ini akan menjadi elektron bebas dan siap menjadi pembawa muatan dalam proses hantaran listrik . Material yang dihasilkan dari proses pengotoran ini disebut semikonduktor tipe -n karena menghasilkan pembawa muatan negatif dari kristal yang netral . Karena atom pengotor memberikan elektron , maka atom pengotor ini disebut sebagai atom donor

Semikonduktor tipe P Silikon diberi doping Boron,Gallium atau Indium , maka akan didapat semikonduktor tipe -p. Untuk mendapatkan silikon tipe -p, bahan dopingnya adalah bahan trivalen yaitu unsur dengan ion yang memiliki 3 elektron pada pita valensi . Karena ion silicon memiliki 4 elektron , dengan demikian ada ikatan kovalen yang bolong (hole). Hole ini digambar-kan sebagai akseptor yang siap menerima elektron . Dengan demikian , kekurangan electron menyebabkan semikonduktor ini menjadi tipe -p.
