86 workers on the bridge that August 29, 1907, 75 died , many of them local Caughnawaga, famous for their high steel work. Some of the dead had been crushed by the twisted steel; others by the fall. Still others drowned before the rescue boats could reach them. The disaster showed what unquestionable power an engineer could have at the time in a project that was improperly supervised. As one result, Galbraith and others formed around 1925 what are now recognized as organizations of Professional Engineers. PEs are under different rules and regulations based on the organization to which they belong. General guidelines include that an engineer must pass an ethical examination, be able to show good character through the use of character witnesses and have applicable engineering experience (in Canada this constitutes a minimum of four years' practice under a certified Professional Engineer). Moreover, engineers must be registered in the province in which they work. These engineering organizations are regulated by the respective provinces and the title "Professional Engineer" (or "Ingénieur" in Quebec) is reserved only to members who belong to this organization. History of The Failure of Quebec Bridge in Canada Projects Need to Employee Professional Engineer and Properly Managed According to International Project Management Practices (PMBOK, Prince2 , IPMA ) Ethics, Knowledge , and Experiences should come together as a PE

Professional Engineer (PE) Practice in Indonesia
Philosophies of Professional Engineering Practice Quality assurance of the the works done by Engineer. All deliverables should be approved or endorsed, stamped by Professional Engineer(s) License to Practice in many countries (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, US, Canada, Australia, etc.) Someone needs to take responsibilties for the engineering deliverables prior to release for implementation such as construction (RFC) , manufacturing, mining, exploration
Difference between Engineer & Professional Engineer Graduate of Engineer ing Can work in engineering field but still supervised by PE A dminister their stamp or seal to reports, plans, drawings, and calculations, sometimes a legal or safety requirement for the project. Professional Engineer Can practice individually and in the company, he/she can also open engineering company Paid higher as they’re fully responsible and liable on the documents signed as per the law & regulation Can perform the design but the review and approval by PE Paid lower as they could not take responsibility on technical deliverables Engineer-in-Training in US (PPI Program in Indonesia) Transition Period Passed FE Exam (in US) Passed PE Exam (in US) Typically , they are a member of professional organization and pay membership fee every year PE pay membership fee and renewal of PE license Bekerja keinsinyuran dan praktik keinsinyuran sesuatu yang berbeda
Professional Responsibilities as PE Responsibility Comply with technical standards Legal standards Professional ethics Maintain operational status as PE Capacities Practicing engineering Mandatory to fulfil all obligations (engineering services and engineering utilization) Professional Code of Ethics Carry out engineering practice honestly, responsibly, and committed to completing professional responsibilities
Professional Engineer Practice Practice as Individual Legally after obtaining STRI/PE License from PII Can carry out projects directly from clients Have the same rights and obligations as PE who work in the company/contractor Can carry out the approval of technical documents (even though it is not included in the company's internal organization) Professional Engineers Own a Consultant/Contractor Company Engineers who have STRI/PE License can create their own company Can employ engineers and engineering graduates All technical documents issued must be approved by engineers who have STRI (by a PE(s)). P E STAMP is a distinctive mark of a Professional Engineer Engineers who have STRI/PE License by PII are equipped with an STRI/PE Stamp. This STRI stamp states that the PE special marker will provide quality and safety assurance in accordance with engineering codes and standards . Employed by Consultant/Contractor/Project Owner Engineers with STRI hired by Engineering/Construction/Owner as Person in Charge for Projects (Project Manager, Project Engineer, Senior Engineer position)
