Sewing Terms Seam: the place where two pieces of fabric meet; the sewing line. Seam Allowance : the distance from the edge of the fabric to the sewing line. Hem: to fold under the edge of a garment and sew into place (hemming makes the garment shorter)
Keeping a Safe Environment When handing someone a pair of shears, scissors, seam ripper or any other sharp item, give them the handle . When using a seam ripper, always use it going away from your body. Work slowly as you do not want to rip your fabric. Straight pins and needles are to be used for their stated purpose .
No running, fooling around , or horseplay in the classroom. Work neatly and carefully. Clean up all scraps of fabric, thread, paper, etc. Learn to be patient when requesting help and patiently wait your turn for assistance. Remember that effort and behavior will affect your grade.
