Mount Kailash

Mount Kailash Mount Kailash is the highest peak in the Kailash Range. The mountain is located near Lake Manasarovar close to the source of some of the longest Asian rivers: the Indus, Sutlej, Brahmaputra, and Ghaghara in India.

Story

Story Under a flawless half-moon in a pristine blue sky, farewells were exchanged on the morning of departure from Ravu. Lhamo presented a thoughtful gift—a long-sleeved sheepskin coat for the impending journey towards Mount Kailash. Tsetan, our guide, skillfully navigated a shortcut through the Changtang region, unveiling vast plains with occasional gazelles and a majestic herd of wild ass. Solitary drokbas, tending to their flocks, and nomadic tents guarded by fearless Tibetan mastiffs added cultural intrigue to the journey. As we traversed the landscape, the scenery evolved from rolling hills to stony plains, where dust signaled the approach of a galloping kyang herd. Nomads, bundled in warmth, paused to observe our passage, their sheep veering away from our speeding vehicle. Tibetan mastiffs, shaggy and formidable, dashed towards us with fearless determination, a testament to their historical role as hunting dogs along the Silk Road. Tsetan's reassurance about the mountain passes carried a hint of uncertainty, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of the terrain. The narrative beautifully captured the remote beauty, cultural nuances, and unpredictable charm of the Changtang journey, creating a vivid tapestry of the farewell morning and the unfolding adventure toward Mount Kailash.
