PRESENTATION ON DIGESTIVE SYSTEM AND OTHER BODY PARTS Syeda Tamanna Yasmin

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM In digestive system all organs are connected by a long tube which is called gastrointestinal tract.      Organs are___ 1 )Mouth 2)Pharynx 3)Esophagus 4)Stomach 5)Small intestine 6)Large intestine 7)Rectum 8)Anus

MOUTH Mouth divided into 3 categories_ 1)Tongue 2)Teeth 3)Salivary gland

TONGUE Tongue: It's a muscular organ in the mouth. It is covered with moist ,pink tissue called Mucosa.     Function of Tongue: 1).It helps taste sensation 2).Speech production

TEETH Permanent Temporary  20 deciduous or primary teeth before the age of 6. By age 7, 32 permanent or secondary teeth are developed & are divided into 4 types: incisors (for cutting) , Canines (for tearing) , Premolars (for crushing), and Molars (for grinding).

SALIVARY GLAND Salivary gland: It make saliva, which helps in _ Digestion Keep mouth moist. 3 pairs of salivary glands called Parotid , Submandibular , and Sublingual gland Secrete most of the saliva in the oral cavity , using salivary ducts .

ESOPHAGUS Esophagus:   It's a long tube transport the food particles into stomach. Its about 25 cm long in adult. Its a muscular tube, after swallowing the food the wall of esophagus squeeze so that food particles cannot flow back from the stomach.

PHARYNX It's a hollow tube that start behind the nose and ends with at the top of the trachea and esophagus.      3 parts___ 1 )Nasopharynx 2)Oropharynx 3)Laryngopharynx

STOMACH What is the stomach? The stomach is a J-shaped organ that digests food. It produces enzymes (substances that create chemical reactions) and acids (digestive juices). This mix of enzymes and digestive juices breaks down food so it can pass to your small intestine. Your stomach is part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The GI tract is a long tube that starts at your mouth. It runs to your anus, where stool (poop) leaves your body. The GI tract is a key part of your digestive system.

What is the stomach’s function? Your stomach’s purpose is to digest food and send it to your small intestine. It has three functions: 1)Temporarily store food. 2)Contract and relax to mix and break down food. 3)Produce enzymes and other specialized cells to digest food.

How does the stomach work with the rest of the GI tract? 1)Mouth: As you chew and swallow, your tongue pushes food into your throat. A small piece of tissue called the epiglottis covers your windpipe. The epiglottis prevents choking. 2)Esophagus: Food travels down a hollow tube called the esophagus. At the bottom, your esophageal sphincter relaxes to let food pass to your stomach. (A sphincter is a ring-shaped muscle that tightens and loosens.) 3)Stomach: Your stomach creates digestive juices and breaks down food. It holds food until it is ready to empty into your small intestine. 4)Small intestine: Food mixes with the digestive juices from your intestine, liver and pancreas. Your intestinal walls absorb nutrients and water from food and send waste products to the large intestine. 5)Large intestine: Your large intestine turns waste products into stool. It pushes the stool into your rectum. 6)Rectum: The rectum is the lower portion of your large intestine. It stores stool until you have a bowel movement.

SMALL INTESTINE Small intestine: -  It's an organ of GI tract where absorption of nutrients takes place. It lies between the stomach and large intestine. Its about 18 feet ( 6.5m ) long. Function:-    1)helps in digestion     2)helps is absorption of protein , lipid and carbohydrates from foods.     Parts:-  3 parts___     1) Duodenum     2) Jujunam     3)Ileum

LARGE INTESTINE Large intestine:-  It's a long tube like organ that is connected to the small intestine at one end and anus at other end. Function:- It get foods from small intestine. Most of the nutrients have been already absorbed by the small intestine. Large intestine dehydrate the food and form it into stool. Parts:_ The large intestine is approximately 1.5m long and comprises : the caecum, colon, rectum, anal canal and anus.

What are the 3 sections of the colon? It is made up of three portions; the ascending, transverse and descending colon The ascending colon is sometimes referred to as the right colon; the descending colon is sometimes referred to as the left, or sigmoid colon.

RECTUM AND ANUS Rectum:  It's a chamber which begin at the end of the large intestine and end at the anus. Anus:  Its the last part of the GI tract. The opening of anus is guarded by a sphincter called anal sphincter.
