I. INVESTMENT POLICY STATEMENT Introduction The purpose of this Investment Policy Statement is to establish a mutual agreement between Julia Pfund , Katherine Flewelling , and Joy Hudgins on the collective management of their portfolio over the 2012 Spring semester. This Statement will: · Establish investment objectives and reasonable expectations and guidelines for the investment for the portfolio. · Detail investment strategies for the portfolio, and asset classes and ranges of exposure desirable. · Create an outline for a well diversified portfolio with a level of risk that is mutually acceptable to the three individuals aforementioned. Investment Objective The objective of this portfolio is to maximize dividends and long term returns with a low level of risk. Our objective is to match or outperform the Standard and Poor’s 500 Index fund. Time frame This portfolio is designed for someone planning to invest at least three to five years. Capital values fluctuate over short spans of time. The diversification of this portfolio minimizes the risk of principal loss over a holding period of at least three years. Investment Strategies Our team will use a total return combined with a dividend income strategy. Gain will be through capital gains and reinvestment of dividends and other income from the portfolio. Asset allocation will be between high dividend stocks, mutual funds, and stocks we deem to be stable and provide the potential for growth. This broad asset allocation is consistent with the total return strategy. Actual percentages are not monitored frequently, but the majority of our holdings will yield high dividends, as we feel this is an excellent strategy for long term stability and growth. For this reason, our portfolio will also lean toward a dividend income strategy. Rebalancing and changes will occur as deemed necessary by our team and at a minimum of once per year. Given that we designed our portfolio as if it were to be a long term position, we may broaden the portfolio to include some assets with less liquidity. However, we will not include any speculative assets such as real estate, art, or antiques. Any costs from taxes and trading will not be included because this is a simulation. The management of this fund will vary. The strategies above will be utilized by one or all owners of the portfolio in any changes made to the stocks and funds held. The overall holdings and risk level will be monitored by the team to ensure it remains in line with our strategy. Investment Risks There is no guarantee on the return or principal in this portfolio. The value of the portfolio will change based on market fluctuations. Risk tolerance may exceed the VFINX index This study source was downloaded by 100000800488955 from CourseHero.com on 08-19-2024 01:00:38 GMT -05:00 https://www.coursehero.com/file/7137539/FINC311-Final-Write-Up/
