DEFINITION OF HEAD INJURY Blunt and/or penetrating injury to the head (above the neck) and/or brain due to external force with temporary or permanent impairement in brain function which may or may not result in underlying structural changes in brain.

DEFINITION OF HEAD INJURY Criteria 1: Mechanism – Presence Of External Force Criteria 2 : Physiological – Alteration In Physiological Of Brain Criteria 3: Anatomical – Scalp And/Or Face And/Or Skull And/Or Brain Injury (Internal And External) ** CRITERIA 1 AND 2 MUST PRESENT TO DEFINE HEAD INJURY

CLASSIFICATION OF SEVERITY

GCS: MOTOR COMPONENT

INITIAL ASSESSMENT Primary Survey Airway Patency And Cervical Spine Protection Breathing Circulation And Haemorhagic Control Disability : Gcs And Pupil Exposure

INITIAL MANAGEMENT: IMAGING HEAD CT SKULL XRAY CERVICAL IMAGING

INITIAL MANAGEMENT: CERVICAL Cervical stabilization: cervical collar and manual in line stabilization during intubation

CRITERIA OF ADMISSION patients with new, clinically significant abnormalities on imaging patients whose GCS <15 continuing worrying signs (e.g. persistent vomiting, unresolved amnesia and headache) of concern to the clinician other sources of concern to the clinician (e.g. anticoagulant use, drug or alcohol intoxication, other injuries, shock, suspected non accidental injury, meningism , cerebrospinal fluid leak) Other body system injuries requiring admission social problems or cannot be supervised by a responsible adult
