Introduction Socialization is a life long process which starts at birth and continues till death. Socialization refers to the formal and informal activities by which individual learns behavior acquire knowledge and adapt the societies cultures.
Definition Socialization is the process by which the individual learns to conform to the norms of the group. OR Socialization can defined as the process of acquiring behavior from society or self.
Importance of Socialization Socialization converter man, the biological being into the social being. Socialization contributes to the development of personality. Helps to become disciplined. Provide the knowledge and skills. Helps to develop right aspiration in life.

Primary socialization Thus is the most essential and basic types of socialization. It takes place in the early years of the new born individual.
Secondary socialization Men not only learn the culture of the group which they are immediate members. They may also learn the culture of groups which they do not belong.
Developmental socialization This kind of learning is based on the primary socialization. It builds on the already acquired skills and knowledge as the adult progresses through new situations such as marriage or new jobs.
Re-socialization This process may take place during different stages of life like, retirement, during unemployment and while joining a new Job.
Characteristic Continuous process:- It is a continuous process and it remains last for the entire life. Upto the time period a person live, he continues to socialize. Natural process:- The socialization is natural as well as deliberate process a child behavior depends upon the environment provided him . There are various circumstances for which if is important to learn about the professional behavior.
Developmental process:- Socialization is a developmental process. It leads to the development in thinking ability of social groups and any new person added to the group is required to follow the rules and ways of behavior made by the groups. Conscious and Unconscious :- the socialization process is a combination of both concious and unconscious aspects.
It is a considered as an unconscious process as the child social behavior is governed by the surrounding family and society to which he belongs. Ig is also considered as concious as the child’s social behavior is also influenced through learning from education, the different kind of person he interacts.

During the first year of it’s life, the child’s contact with the outside world is through the mouth and lips. The child is only concerned with its oral needs. Freud called thus stage as stage of primary identification. Crying and smiling and forms of early social behavior.
