Softener Calculation: Calculation for Resin Qty = Feed Water Hardness in ppm X Qty of Water in m3 Exchange Capacity of Resin Exchange Capacity of Cation Resin is normally 55% So the formula can be utilized as under: Hardness in ppm X Qty of Water in M3 = Resin Qty in Liter X Exchange Cap of Resin If you have softener having 2000Ltr of Resin and Raw Water Hardness in 150ppm as CaCO3 then what should the OBR. 150 X OBR in m3 = 2000 Liter X 55 OBR in m3 = 2000 Liter X 55 / 150 = 733 m3. Regeneration: 150gms of NaCl (Common Salt –available NaCl is 50%) is required to regenerate 01Ltr of Resin. So to regenerate 2000Ltr of Resin you need 2000 x 150 /1000 = 300Kgs of Common Salt Qty or water required for solution preparation: Generally regeneration is performed using 10% Common Salt (Having 50% NaCl ) solution so you need 3000Ltr of water. This Qty has to be injected in 20-30Min time and then provide slow rinse to 30 – 40 min and then provide fast rinse until you get <05ppm of Hardness.
