Slide Content

Welcome to my presentation Good Morning &

This is Md Rubel Mia speaking…

Topic N ame is: About Soil & Soil Science

What is Soil ? Soil is considered as a natural body, a biochemically weathered and synthesize product of nature.

Soil is considered as a natural habitat for plants and other living organisms. Another concept..

In different point of view - Weathering Rocks and Minerals →→→→→ soil Soil is a weathered product of rocks and minerals.

2 . Edaphological / Agricultural : Soil is a natural medium for plant growth.

3. Composition point of view- Soil is a three-phase system consisting of solid, liquid and gases .

4. Engineering point of view - Soil is a foundation material for buildings and roads .

5. General point of view- Soil is the loose surface of earth .

According to Buckman and Brady : Soil may be defined as `` A dynamic natural body on the surface of earth in which plants growth, composed of mineral and organic materials and living forms``.

Five function of soil : Medium for plant growth Habitat for soil organism Recycling of Nutrients and organic waste Water supply and purification Engineering medium

Soil science is the study of soil as a natural resource on the surface of the earth including soil formation classification and mapping. Physical , chemical, biological, and fertility properties of soil. These properties in relation to the use and management of soil .

A prime reason for studying soils is to obtain a general concept as to what they are and how they can and should be used. Such a concept is essential to understand how soil can serve the engineer, the farmer, and the home owner .

Scope of Soil Science Soil Geology: The study of the geological materials from which soil is derived and its process of formation.

Soil Chemistry : Study of chemical component of soil, their interaction with one another.

Soil physics :

Soil Biology : Study the effects of plants, animals and soil microorganisms on the evolution of soils.

Branches of soil science

It deals with soil formation, soil genesis, soil classification and description of soil properties. Pedology :

Edaphology : Study of soil in relation to growth, nutrition and yield crops or plants .
