Sound Production is the process by
which sounds are created and modified
to convey meaning and express ideas.
In English, sound production involves
the use of vocal organs to produce
speech sounds.
Types of Sound Production
•Plosives / Stops
–Stops are sounds that are made by blocking the airflow with the
tongue, teeth or lips.
–Examples:
•/p/ (pat)
•/k/ (cat)
•/g/ (got)
•Fricatives
–Fricatives are sounds that are made by directing air through a
narrow channel, causing friction.
–Examples:
•/f/ (fox)
•/z/ (zoo)
•/h/ (house)

–Nasals are sounds that are made by allowing air to escape
through the nose.
–Examples:
