SPECIAL PROGRAM IN SCIENCE ORIENTATION
The Special Program in Science is developmentally appropriate and relevant as it fosters problem-based learning and design thinking embedded in the curriculum which emphasizes learners’ understanding through inquiry and problem solving. Special Science in Elementary Schools (SSES) learners are being prepared to enter but not limited to the science programs when they reach junior high school, while learners from the Science, Technology & Engineering (STE)- implementing schools are envisioned to take STEM track in the Senior High School to be the future human capital that would provide scientific, research and technological skills which will drive towards a progressive nation. Vision-Mission-Goals of SPS Vision – The Special Program in Science envisions developing Filipino learners who are scientifically and technologically advanced, and environmentally literate, who can excel at par in other developed countries. Mission – To develop 21 st century Filipino learners, facilitated by dedicated and highly competent teachers through a relevant and responsive curriculum that is continuously supported by the administrators and stakeholders, to become productive members of the society for national development. Goal – The program aims to provide learners with an enriched Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) - oriented curriculum integrated with research, technology and design that will enable them to develop technical and entrepreneurial skills and prepare them in the pursuit of higher education and/or world of work in the areas of STEM.
A. Admission and Screening Admission is open to incoming Grade 1 and Grade 7 learners. • For Grade 1, the learner should have a rating of C (Consistent) in Language, Literacy and Communication; Mathematics; and Understanding the Physical and Natural Environment. • For Grade 7, the learner should have a grade of at least 87 in Science, Math, and English and at least 85 in other subjects from first to third quarters as modified cut-off grade per DO 8, s. 2015 Item 5.

The PARENTS/GUARDIANS Responsibilities To provide for learning in a caring, nurturing and supportive environment with respect for the individual child’s needs and giftedness. To be available to monitor and discuss the child’s progress and assist the school community. To provide an example with regard to social values and behavior. To be involved in quality assurance activities. To attend all homeroom and general PTA meetings.

To teach with optimum and genuine joy for effective learning. The TEACHERS Responsibilities To facilitate, educate, and train pupils/students to be the best of their being by discovering, nurturing their abilities in a caring sharing environment. To be consistent, fair, and reasonable to pupils/ students, peers, and parents. To uphold the rules and policies which govern their profession.
The Special Science Program … has the right and responsibility to impose other learning activities on top of the scheduled classes, the necessity and relevance of which is subject to review and discretion of the School and the DepEd.
The Special Program in Science in SDO Bayawan City aims to: Provide a learning environment to science-inclined children through a special curriculum that recognizes the multiple intelligences of the learners; Promote the development of lifelong learning skills; Foster the holistic development of the learners.
