SPORTS COMPLEX Submitted by - Chaitanya agrawal B.Arch X sem Roll No. - 10

Sports infrastructure plays a crucial role in achieving excellence in the global arena of sports. It not only helps in producing sports persons of international repute, but also encourages the young population of a country to participate in sporting activities with the objective of creating a culturing of sports. In India, the standard of sports infrastructure is not at a satisfactory level for a number of reasons . The lack of infrastructural facilities is one of the major constraints in the process of development of sports in India. Despite of the success achieved by India in big platforms like FIFA Football World Cup ,  Commonwealth Games 2010 ,  Hockey World Cup  and  Cricket World Cup , it is pertinent to mention that the status of sports infrastructure in India is yet to reach the desired level. This creates an obstacle in developing a culture of sports in the country. PROJECT INTRODUCTION

As India prides itself on being a sports crazy nation, there is a high demand for additional facilities for field sports, aquatics and indoor sports , for both youth and adult sports in India . Intuitive logic says that there must be a strong co-relation between interest & participation in sports. If you compare India’s interest and participation numbers with global figures, a very interesting and rather dismal pattern emerges. This is due to lack of updated sports complexes which lack in awareness of varieties of sports one can get into play . REASON FOR SELECTION

So to overcome the need of such sports infrastructure having all the basic sports amenities & facilities with proper coaching & proper management is the main goal of this thesis project. The western & northern part of the country is privileged with the same while the central & eastern part of the country are lacking behind . So I have taken Nagpur as my project location as it is at the heart of India . RESON FOR SELECTION (https://yourstory.com/2015/10/recreational-sports/) The numbers show the co-relation between interest in sport and participation in organised sport. For every other country/region.

The monsoons recede in late september , and the post-monsoon season continues till late october . Winter starts in late november or early december and peaks in january. Although winters are generally mild, delhi's proximity to the  himalayas  results in cold waves leading to lower apparent temperature due to wind chill. Heavy fogs during the winter season leads to reduced visibility In december , leads to disruption of road, air and rail traffic .  They end in early February,

ANALYSIS OF CASE STUDY & TAKESAWAYS

INFERENCE FROM BOTH CASE STUDIES SR.NO. DESCRIPTION YAMUNA SPORTS COMPLEX SIRI FORT SPORTS COMPLEX PREFERENCES 1. SITE Situated near Vivekananda College, Surajmal Vihar , New Delhi, Delhi & have an area of 66 acres . Siri Fort Institutional Area, Siri Fort, New Delhi, Delhi & have an area of 71 acres . Location should be such that it can easily attract the crowd during sevral occasions . 2. SITE SURROUNDING Surrounded by residential & institutional area. Surrounded by open space as well as institutional & residential . Surrounding should be open spaces so that the activities will not disturb the surrounding . 3. SITE ENTRANCE 5 Gates were given with also includes one emergency entrance with same designs in all 5 of them . Only 2 entrances were given one for admin area & other for daily members with not so appealing gate design . The entrance should reflect the image of building & give a sence of building type.

4. PARKING Sufficient spaces for parking. Not Sufficient sas per the demand of the buidling . Proper parking space is essential & should meet sufficient demand of building 5. STADIUM Stadium is provide for few sports . Stadium is provide for few sports . Should have stadium which standa nationally or internationally . 6. FACILITIES Almost every facilities were provide d like media centre , sports science centre but the were not in use since Commonwealth 2010 . Comparitively less facilities were there but here also they were not in use since Commonwealth 2010 Necessary facilities should be provided . 7. AGE GROUPS The active crowd is mostly less than 25 year s age group The active crowd is almost married ones parallel to young ones (<25) The sports complex should provide facilities for all type of age groups .

OUTDOOR CIRCULATIONS PARKING CIRCULATIONS The Circulation should be with minimum movement to go the destination . Separate provision for different entries should be provided to go to different games blocks and separate parking . One should not follow the long way to go to one corner . Stairs should be provided for each block with the toilets and refreshments. Parking is like that one can park their vehicle, where they want to go . He should not follow the foot way movement or walking . The parking is also of type that in case of some events general public can be restricted and out side parking will also be like the public is near to their block.

ROADS CIRCULATIONS INDOOR CIRCULATIONS Roads should be well linked to each block and in case of events, different routs can be followed without disturbing VIP and player’s routs. Indoor circulation should be like that separate routs for toilets/entries etc. for players and separate for public should be provided. No disturbance to players should be from public, so sitting is at height and middle aisles are there. SWIMMING POOL Every form should have concept of its function. Swimming has the movement in one direction, so pitch should be used which shows the diving after rising up . INDOOR GAMES Dome or shell can be provided in the Badminton, Basket Ball or Gymnasium because dome has its movement around its axis and these games have movement around net or all around.

ORIENTATION Generally the events start in evening and general games in evening and morning. So East-West orientation is not preferred because sun movement is East to West due South and sun will obstruct the player’s eyes. So North-South orientation is the best suited one for almost all the games. North light is provided in facility because seating games don’t want window light. It is from the height so that no obstruction to players of sun light at lower level . Swimming pool needs side light, so large openings are provided and other games want all-rounded light at height, so windows are provided at the back of seating in all directions as in next picture.

CONCEPT OF MATERIAL USED AND STRUCTURAL SYSTEM Material should be light weight, because it is cheap and easy to cast or renovate . So only steel and A.C. sheets with trusses or space frame, thin R.C.C. shells etc. are used and can be moulded in any form . False ceiling is done underside of roofs for insulation . Thermocol , A.C. Decking etc. can also be used to cover larger spans . Steel is the only suitable material which can be used to cover spans without columns.

FORM-ACTIVE STRUCTURE SYSTEM Fully form-active structures are normally used only in circumstances where a special structural requirement to achieve a high degree of structural efficiency exists, either because the span involved is very large or because a structure of exceptionally light weight is required. The geometries which are more complicated than post-and-beam or semi-form-active types and they produce buildings which have distinctive shapes . Included in this group are compressive shells, tensile cable networks and air supported tensile-membrane structures. In the case of large building envelopes, the loads which are applied are predominantly of the distributed rather than the concentrated type and the form-active geometry is therefore curved.

LANDSCAPING Heavy foliage trees for outer walls to welcome as vista should be used . It provides shade to the parking also. Shrubs and hedges should be used adjoining the high roofed structures in contrast to give relief from conc. jungle and matching to human heights. They should be used in-between buildings and parkings /pathways to physically segregate but visually linkage and shade to people sitting outside.

ARRANGEMENT FOR VIP/VVIP SEATING The separate entry and seating parallel to the arena at some higher place should be provided . Moat has to be given to resist articles thrown by the spectators. The separate entry and seating tires can be placed all around the arena in multi levels with proper stair- cases and other services at every entrance . The chairs should be placed diagonally . The tiers should be free from columns, but not as shown. ARRANGEMENT FOR GENERAL SEATING

ARRANGEMENT FOR VIP/VVIP SEATING Lighting should be such that it should not reflect into the eyes of players/spectators and enlighten the full arena For arena, horizontal illumination should be 500Lux and vertical illumination should be 300Lux. Halogen lamps of 1000w with dispersive type fitting are ideal. Light should be spread on four rectangles equally divided. No. of shadows = No. of towers
