SPORTS TEXTILES (SPORT TECH)

CONTENT

What is Sporttech? Sports textiles, also known as Sporttech It is one of the branch of Technical Textiles which deals with the textile materials used for the sports and leisure purpose. used mainly for making sports wear including sports shoes and other sports accessories .

Problems Occurred Using Traditional Apparel in Sport Synthetic fibers and coatings have largely replaced traditional cotton fabrics and other natural fibers in the making of sport textiles. Sweating – which stick the fabric with body Feeling hot during run Improper stretch ability Extra weight of the fabric no protection to body skin during fall on the ground Inadequate fabric for fluid resistance for swimmer Windproof, waterproof fabric for sailor Lightweight shoe with proper strength & air circulation High tenacity & resistance to abrasion for the skiwear uniform Improper gripping of the shoes during run etc.

CLASSIFICATION OF SPORTTECH

EXAMPLES FOR SPORTS TEXTILES

PROPERTIES OF SPORTS TEXTILES

REQUIREMENTS OF CLOTHING TO BE SUITABLE FOR SPORTSWEAR Good absorption of moisture & ability to transmit moisture vapor (fast drying & vapor permeability) Thermal retention, UV resistance Maintain a comfortable microclimate (temperature & humidity in the skin sensor zone) Absence of unpleasant odor (perspiration) Compatibility with skin Good fit stability Low intrinsic weight (not impairing physical performance) water repellent dirt repellent Higher softness, higher Drapability & graceful luster

Required Functions On Different Sportswear Sportswear Required Function 1. Shirts for tennis, volleyball, golf, football, rugby, base ball uniform, track suits Sweat absorption, fast drying, cooling 2. Skiwear, windbreaker, rain wear Vapour permeability, water proofing 3. Skiwear, windbreakers, track suits Sunlight absorbing and thermal retention 4. Swimming race and skating costume, ski jump and downhill skiing suits, cycling costumes Low fluid resistance (for water and air) 5. Swimwear, skating costume. Stretch ability, opacity 6.Skiwear, snowboard wear, football and base ball uniform High tenacity, heat melt resistance to abrasion

FIBRES USED IN SPORT-TECH Polyester Lycra Spandex Nylon Polypropylène Cotton Carbon

New developments in sport tech SPECIAL FIBERS HYGRA – sheath core type filament yarn composed of fiber made from water absorbing polymer and nylon KILLATN – nylon hollow filament ( good water absorbency and warmth retentive property ) DACRON - Recyclable polypropylene micro fiber LYCRA 25 – long chain polymer composed of at least 85% segmented polyurethane Roica and Leofeel N – roica is polyether type spandex and Leofeel is soft nylon66.Combination of Roica and Leofeel N in mixed knitted tricot fabric gives soft touch and excellent stretch . Suitable for swimming wear. TRIACTOR – composed of polyester with modified cross-section

New developments in sport tech COMBINATIONS OF INNER HYDROPHOBIC & OUTER HYDROPHILLIC LAYERS Two-sided Of The Fabric- By Either Using Different Materials Or Coatings MICRO FIBERS EXTREME FINENESS SMALL GAPS HIGH CAPILLARY ACTION BIG SURFACE AREA RAPID EVAPORATION

New developments in sport tech INCLUSION OF ELECTRONICS OR MICRO SYSTEMS- SMART CLOTHING, i -WEAR The biological sensors developed by Athos® measure the electrical activity generated by muscles when they are doing anything that requires force or energy. The technology behind these sensors is called surface Electromyography or sEMG . DRI-FIT FABRIC Dri -FIT fabric pulls sweat away to help keep athletes comfortable and dry. microfiber polyster
