7 STAGES OF DECOMPOSITION : 1.IMMEDIATE STAGE 2. LIVOR MORTIS 3. RIGOR MORTIS 4. PUTREFICATION 5. ENTHAMOLOGY MUMMIFICATION SKELETINISATION
IMMEDIATE STAGE Begins immediately after death All physiological function stops
LIVOR MORTIS Begins after 20-30 min of death Blood settles down under gravity Cause purplish discoloration
RIGOR MORTIS Initiates after 12-24 hrs Stiffening of body muscles Stiffness disappear after 36 hrs
PUTREFICATION Time line : 2-3 days /2-3 weeks Liquefaction of most organs Abdomen begins to swell Discoloration of abdomen
ENTAMOLOGY Eggs are lied within 2 hrs Life cycle of a fly from egg to maggot to fly takes from 2-3 weeks
MUMMIFICATION Initiates from 5 β 15 days Flesh eventually turn similar to wax Completed within a span of 3-12 months
SKELETONIZATION Soft tissues dried and decay Parts of skeleton are visible
CONCLUSION There are 7 stages of decomposition Timeline of each stage varies from country to country It may be also influenced by topography and environmental conditions
