Unit 3
Topic covered: Steam condensers –
Working of Low Level Jet condensers
Parallel and Counter flow condensers
Parallel flow condenser :
In parallel flow condenser, the flow directions of
hot fluid (exhaust steam) and cold fluid (water)
are same (or parallel) to each other.
Counter flow condenser:
In counter flow condenser, the flow directions of
hot fluid (exhaust steam) and cold fluid (water)
are opposite (or counter) to each other.
High and Low level Jet condensers
We know that 10.363 m of water column exerts pressure
equal to 1 atm. pr. (approximately). Now,
Low level jet condenser:
In a Low level jet condenser, the difference between
elevations of condenser and hotwellis less than 10.363 m.
High level jet condenser:
In a high level jet condenser, the difference between
elevations of condenser and hotwellis at least 10.363 m.
•High level jet condensers are also called Barometric
condensers.
