•In fruit from Arid areas, stem end rot may be a more serious post-
harvest disease than anthracnose in mangoes.
•Anthracnose disease (Colletotrichumgloeosporioides) may cause
similar symptomsto stem end rot of mangoes,
Causal Organism
It is a fungal Disease caused by
Dothiorelladominicana, PhomopsissppBotryodiplodiatheobromaeLasiodiplodiatheobromae
Symptoms
•In Fruit , pericarp darken near the base of pedicels
•The affected area enlarges to form circular black
patchwhichextandunder humid atmosphre
•Pulp become brown and softer
•The rot produces dark streaking of the water-
conducting tissuesin fruits
Spreading of Stem End Rot
•These fungi are natural inhabitants on the branches of the mango
tree and grow into the stem of the fruit before harvest
•Fruit placed on the ground for desappingcan also be infected from
the bark, litter or the soil.
Control and Management
•Avoid harvesting of premature fruit
•Careful handling of fruit & prevent mechanical
injury
•Prune trees to improve ventilation and spray
penetration
•Dip fruit after harvesting in Carbendazim(0.1%)
in hot water at 52±1C˚ for 15 minutes.
•Trichodermasp. act as biological control agent .
