Story of Prophet Yunus (A.S)

Prophet Yunus (AS) / Jonah (PBUH) was sent to preach the people of Nineveh. However people rejected him and didn't accept his call. Yunus (AS) left his people telling them that the punishment of Allah (SWT) will come upon them in 3 days. Yunus (AS) left his people although Allah had not yet commanded him to do so, when the Prophet boarded the ship; soon the sky drew dark and there was a terrible storm. Yunus (AS) understood it was because he left without the permission of Allah (SWT). People drew lots and whoever name appears must jump from the ship so that the ship doesn't drown because of overweight. Yunus (AS) name came and he jumped from the ship and Allah commanded a big fish to swallow him. In the belly of the fish, Yunus (AS) sincerely repented to Allah and his Tawbah was accepted. Allah ordered the fish to vomit Yunus (AS) on the shore. Yunus (AS) went back to his people and saw that all accepted his message when he left because of the warning he gave them about the punishment of Allah.

Dua of Yunus (AS)
لَّا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِين
"There is no god (worthy of worship) except You. Glory be to You! I have certainly done wrong.”
[Surah Anbiya 87-88]

1. ٱلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ ٱللَّٰهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ May the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah (swt) be upon all of you.

5. People of Ninevah were Idol worshippers

6. Allah sent Prophet Yunus (A.S) to guide them to the right path

7. Yunus (A.S) preached to them for a long time. He warned them to turn away from their wickedness

8. But the people paid no heed to his words

9. He left warning them that Allah’s punishment would come to them after 3 days

10. Yunus (A.S) headed towards the seaport...

11. The people went out and asked for forgiveness from Allah.

12. Yunus (A.S) had already left the town and boarded on a ship

13. The Sky grew dark & there was a terrible storm

14. People drew lots Name of Yunus (A.S) was picked in the draw

15. Yunus (A.S ) jumped from the ship

16. A big fish swallowed Yunus (A.S)

17. Yunus (A.S) found himself inside the fish He realized that he had left the people of Ninevah too early without completing the task set by Allah.

18. When Yunus (A.S) realized his mistake he cried from the depths of darkness And asked Allah for Forgiveness.

19. There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers (Quran 21:87)

20. It is mentioned that if he had not said sorry and glorified Allah in his prayers, he would have stayed in the belly of the fish till the Day of Judgment

21. The fish left Yunus (A.S) to the shore. Yunus (A.S) was ill and exhausted. Allah showed mercy and commanded a plant to grow which healed him to get cured

22. When Yunus (A.S) had fully recovered, he went back to his people and they all believed in him.
