EARTHQUAKE RESISTANT DESIGN OF HOSPITAL AT TIRUNELVELI

INTRODUCTION BUILDING DESCRIPTION LOADING SOIL INVESTIGATION DETAILS ANALLYSIS OF STRUCTURE FOUNDATION DESIGN COLUMNS, BEAMS AND SLABS CONTENT

Client : M/S ARAVIND KRISHNA HOSPITAL PVT. LTD. Consultant : DESIGN COLLABORATIVE PVT. LTD. The proposed Hospital building is located in Kulavanigarpuram Village, Tirunelveli. The Hospital building is located individually as shown in the site plan. The Hospital block is structurally divided into two blocks with 150mm wide expansion joint. 1. INTRODUCTION 1

SITE PLAN [Hospital Block] [Service Block] 2

The structural design of the project is governed by the architectural concept and the requirements for services. The design of structure conform to relevant Indian Standards and codes Cost Effective Construction System Efficient Functioning of the Building Speed of Construction 3 1. INTRODUCTION

DEAD LOAD [IS 875 (PART-1): 1987] Finishes including services load = 1.0 kN/m 2 Partition wall load = 2.0 kN/m 2 Density of concrete = 25 kN/m 3 Density of Block Wall = 8.0 kN/m 3 Density of Water = 10 kN/m 3 4. LOADINGS 14

LIVE LOAD[IS 875 (PART-2): 1987] Staircase = 4.0kN/m 2 Lobby, Balconies & corridors = 4.0 kN/m 2 Wards, dormitories = 2.0 kN/m 2 Dining rooms, cafeterias, restaurants = 3.0 kN/m 2 Store room = 5.0 kN/m 2 EB, AHU Room & CT Simulator = 5.0 kN/m 2 Transformer Room = 10.0 kN/m 2 X-ray rooms, operating rooms, general store = 3.0 kN/m 2 Office rooms and OPD = 2.5kN/m 2 Toilets and bathrooms = 2.0 kN/m 2 4. LOADINGS [Hospital Block] 15

EARTHQUAKE LOAD Seismic Loads considered on the structure are as per IS 1893 (Part 1) – 2002 . As per the seismic map of India, Coimbatore lies in zone II Zone factor (Z) for zone II - 0.10 Importance factor (I) - 1.5 [For Hospital] Response reduction factor (R) - 5.00 [For SMRF] Percentage of Imposed Load considered in Seismic weight calculation - 25 % for LL < 3.0 kN/sqm 50 % for LL > 3.0 kN/sqm 16

As per Table 18 of IS456:2000, the load combinations for Limit state of Serviceability are 1.0 (DL + LL) 1.0 (DL +/- EL) 1.0DL + 0.8LL +/- 0.8EL As per Table 18 of IS456:2000, the load combinations for Limit state of Collapse are 1.5 (DL + LL) 1.2 (DL + LL +/- EL) 1.5 (DL +/- EL) 0.9DL +/- 1.5EL 17

5 . SOIL INVESTIGATION DETAILS 18 Soil Investigation Report - Geomatrix Consultancy Foundation Type - Isolated Footings / Raft Depth of Foundation - 7.30m from LNGL Safe Bearing Capacity - 300 kN/sq.m. P.C.C (1:4:8) bed below foundation - 150mm The support reaction from ETABS is used for manual calculation of Isolated Footings.

As per IS 1893(part1):2002, for regular buildings less than 90m in height in seismic zone II, Linear Static analysis is performed using ETABS software and the design is also performed using the same. 6 . BUILDING ANALYSIS 19

The columns are designed directly using ETABS 2016 version 16.2.1 for the worst load combination and detailed as per SP: 34-1987 and IS:456-2000 Beam sizes vary according to the span and are designed using ETABS 2016 version 16.2.1 software for the worst load combination and detailed as per SP: 34 or IS 13920 as the case may be . Ductile Detailing has been done for columns of hospital block to resist Seismic forces and satisfies the codal requirements SUPER STRUCTURE 23
