2. What is an Essay? The word essay is derived from a French word " essai " which means " to try " or " attempt ". "Essay is a written composition of moderate length exploring a particular issue or a subject. " An essay consists of paragraphs. 02

4. Introduction The first paragraph of an essay contains introduction. It introduces the topic. It contains the main idea of the essay. It contains the most important sentence of the essay which is known as the " Thesis Statement ." 04

5. Body of an Essay This part of the essay contains 3-6 paragraphs. These are supporting paragraphs which develop the main idea of the essay stated in the thesis statement. 05
