Examine the Impact of Technology Highlight the Generation Gap Analyze the Role of Technology in Human Flourishing Critically Assess Technology’s Influence on Perception Encourage Reflection on the Meaning of Life OBJECTIVES
Technology has created a generation gap, with older people finding it difficult to adapt to modern advancements. While technology is meant to help everyone, many still struggle to use it effectively. Despite this, humanity has always been fascinated by science and technology, which have significantly improved life over time. INTRODUCTION
The Human Condition before Common Era Early humans used basic tools and resources, like fire and stone, to survive. These primitive technologies, though simple, marked the beginning of human innovation. While survival was hard, humans used available materials to make life easier, laying the groundwork for future advancements.
The Human Condition in the Common Era Humans gradually moved from basic survival to forming complex societies. Technology helped improve life through developments in medicine, education, and productivity. These advancements reduced mortality rates, increased life expectancy, and improved the overall quality of life.
The Essence of Technology Technology is often seen as a means to achieve progress, but philosopher Martin Heidegger suggests that it shapes how we perceive the world. Technology reveals different aspects of human nature but can also limit our understanding, as it focuses too much on productivity and consumption.
Backtracking the Human Condition While technology has improved comfort and lifestyle, it has also introduced new challenges and hasn't necessarily helped humanity find deeper meaning in life. The rapid pace of technological advancement can outpace moral considerations, leaving people disconnected from the true essence of life beyond material progress.
