Objective
To serve as the headquarters for Thonik
—a renowned graphic design agency
known for bold, experimental visual
communication.
To embody the studio’s design
philosophy—minimal, modular, and
visually striking —in its own building.
To merge work and public engagement
by making the office a place where
design is both created and displayed .
Purpose
•Functional Workspace:
Provide collaborative spaces for graphic designers,
strategists, and creative staff to work on branding,
campaigns, and exhibitions.
•Public Interaction:
The ground floor doubles as a public gallery/event
space, inviting passersby to experience design.
•Architectural Identity:
The building acts as a 3D business card, reflecting
Thonik’s bold graphic style (black-and-white striped
façade, modular grid).
•Cultural Contribution:
Enhance the Wibautstraat area in Amsterdam by
adding a landmark that’s both modern and socially
open.
•Sustainability & Adaptability:
The structure uses modular elements for flexibility,
allowing future layout changes without major
reconstruction.
