What is Neuralink ? Neuralink is a device that can help humans interact with machines using their brains Called N1 chipset or Brain machine interface (BMI). will be surgically implanted into your brain and with it, you’ll be able to communicate with machines and even control them.
How does Neuralink work? Neural network Neuralink depends on the electrical field that results from the electrochemical activity of the brain. The N1 chip has more than one thousand small electrodes that are implanted in this neural network. These electrodes can then understand the electrical signal in our brain and translate them into an algorithm that a machine can read. The goal of the N1 chip is to record and stimulate electrical spikes inside our brain.
How will Neuralink be installed? A highly specialized Neuralink surgical robot will insert the module into the brain using needles the size of 24 microns. The operation will require a 2mm incision in the skull. Electrodes, whose diameter is 5 microns, are inserted in the thin surface of the cortex. After the procedure is complete the exposed part of the skull will be covered with the chipset module. Only takes an hour and painless.
Neuralink Applications 1) Helping patients with Spinal Cord injuries Spinal cord injury is the showcase application of Neuralink . 2) Treatment of neurological disorders There is a high chance of Neuralink being able to cure neurological disorders 3) Curing retinal injury or blindness The idea is to essentially plug a camera directly into the visual cortex and stimulate an enormous array of thousands of electrodes to recreate a visual image. 4) Uploading memories In future Neuralink models, these memories are uploaded to a Cloud Network in which it’s stored there.
Challenges facing Neuralink Achieving a precise algorithm is exceptionally hard most brain-machine interfaces use an approach called “biomimetic” decoding. for more complex movements or mental process it’s much more complicated and harder to record. Future Privacy Issues In the future it will use the internet to achieve most of the promised services. the device might be exposed to hackers or viruses who might try to steal data directly from the brain.
