THEME: FRUITFULNESS
Text: John 15:1-2 “1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit He taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”
TITLE: ACTIVELY PARTNER WITH GOD IN PRUNING
Intro: What is “Pruning”? Pruning is the removal of parts of plants, usually branches or branch tips, to relieve the burden on the remaining parts of the plant, to increase the quantity and quality of flowers or fruit. God wants His children to produce spiritual fruit. In return, we should want to remove the things that hold us back. We should “lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares” us. (Hebrews 12:1-2)
SHORT ACTIVITY 3 mins.
TOPIC: 4 STEPS TO SPIRITUAL FRUITFULNESS BY PRUNING YOUR OWN LIFE
CRITICALLY AND HONESTLY EXAMINE YOUR LIFE - 1 Corinthians 11:28a “But let a man examine himself.” - 2 Corinthians 13:5a “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in faith; prove your own selves.”
CONFESS AND REPENT OF ANY ROUTINE OR HABITUAL SINS ON YOUR LIFE AND REMOVE THEM. - Revelation 2:5a “Remember thereforefrom whence thou are fallen, and repent, and do the first works.” - Revelation 3:19 “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore and repent.”
DIMINISH DISTRACTIONS and FILTER YOUR FRIENDS - 1 Corinthians 10:23 “All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. - 1 John 2:15-17 - Psalms 1:1-2 - Proverbs 13:120
REPLACE WHAT YOU REMOVE - Philippians 4:13 “I can do all thing through Christ which strengtheneth me” - James 1:12 “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is ttried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him.”
CHALLENGE: After all, the whole reason for removing sins, distractions and negative influences from your life is to make room for better things. The goal of this pruning is to increase your spiritual fruitfulness by becoming more like Jesus. So replace the things you remove with fruitful activities that will please and honor our God. The question is...........
Are you ready to voluntarily go to work pruning your life with God? Or will you wait for God to do it for you? TO PRUNE OR BE PRUNED?
