The Virtue of Surah Al-Waqia Abu Ishaq reported from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas that Abu Bakr(rta) said: “ Allah’s messenger: you are becoming gray ” The messenger (saw) replied: The following surahs made me gray: Hud( Surah 11 ) Al-Waqiah( Surah 56 ) Al-Mursalat( Surah 77 ) An-Naba ( Surah 78 ) Al-Takwir ( Surah 81 ) Had ith recorded in At-Tirmidhi and is S aheeh. 7. The prophet(saw) said: “Whoever reads one letter from the book of Allah will earn one good deed (hasanah) . One good deed is equal to ten good deeds . I don’t say that Alif-laam-Meem is a letter but Alif is a letter, Lam is a letter and Meem is a letter. Had ith recorded in At-Tirmidhi classed as Saheeh(2910). Section-1 About the Surah Al-Waqiah.

11. إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ - خَافِضَةٌ رَافِعَةٌ إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا وَكُنْتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement V erses (1-10) describe the conditions of earth, mountain and human beings on the day of judgement.

12. إِ ذَا وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ 56:1) When the inevitable event will come to pass. Al-Waqiah is one of the names of the day of judgement . The deniers of the day of judgement are warned that the day of judgement is certain to come. They will inevitably face it. There is no doubt in its occurrence , It is a real and certain event . 13. لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَة 56:2) no one will be able to deny its coming to pass. No one can deny the occurrence of this event and it will surely come to pass . There will be none to deny it’s happening. Nor will anyone have the power to avert it. كَاذِبَة Despicable Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement

14. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah describes the Day of Judgement Allah says about the day of judgement سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ 70:1) A questioner asked you about the punishment which is bound to happen. لِلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ 70:2) It is for the disbelievers and there is none to avert it. 15. The status of People: خَافِضَةٌ رَافِعَةٌ 56:3) Then some shall be abased and some exalted. On this day, a person shall be evaluated according to his faith and deeds . The believers who were despised and downtrodden in the worldly life will be exalted and elevated (with honor and status ) The Disbeliever who were mighty and rich in the worldly life will be abased ( deprived and humiliated ). رَافِعَةٌ raising up خَافِضَة Bringing down Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement

16. The condition of the earth: إِذَا رُجَّتِ الْأَرْضُ رَجًّا 56:4) The earth shall be shaken with severe shaking. The verse describes how the whole earth will be violently shaken on the day of judgement . It will cause all the high structures to be levelled to the ground . It will not be a local earthquake that may occur in restricted area . رَجًّا (with) a shaking رُجَّتِ will be shaken Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement

17. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah portrays the Earthquake إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ زِلْزَالَهَا 99:10) When the earth will be shaken to her utmost convulsion. وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً 69:14) And the earth with all its mountains will be lifted up and crushed into pieces with a single stroke. يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ ۚ إِنَّ زَلْزَلَةَ السَّاعَةِ شَيْءٌ عَظِيمٌ 22:1) O mankind! Have fear of your Rabb; the catastrophic quaken of the Hour of Doom will be terrible indeed. يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَهِيلًا 73:14) On the day when the earth with all it's mountains will be in a violent commotion, and the mountains will crumble into heaps of shifting sand. 18. The condition of the Mountains: وَبُسَّتِ الْجِبَالُ بَسًّا 56:5) And the mountains shall be made to crumble with awful crumbling فَكَانَتْ هَبَاءً مُنْبَثًّا 56:6) And become like scattered dust. The towering mountains will become floating dust particles . The mountain will become like a heap of sand . The Gigantic mountain will be levelled to the Ground. This depicts the severity of the day of Judgement. هَبَاءً Dust Particle بَسًّا Crumble & Scatter Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement

19. Three Groups of people on the day of resurrection: وَكُنْتُمْ أَزْوَاجًا ثَلَاثَةً 56:7) Then you shall be divided into three groups: The verse means that: All human beings who have been born since first day of creation will ultimately be divided into three classes on the day of judgement . Allah(swt) also divides people into three groups upon their death , as is indicated at the end of this surah. أَزْوَاجًا Kinds كُنْتُمْ You will become Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement ثَلَاثَةً Three

20. 1)The people on the right فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ 56:8) those on the right hand - how blessed shall be the people of the right hand. The Arabs regard the right hand as a symbol of strength, eminence and honor. The people who will receive their book of deeds in the right hand will be exalted in rank and will be blessed on the day of judgement. 21. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah says about the People of the Right Hand فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمُ اقْرَءُوا كِتَابِيَهْ 69:19) Then he, who will be given his Book of Deeds in his right hand, will say: "Here it is, read my Book of deeds!“ إِنِّي ظَنَنْتُ أَنِّي مُلَاقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ 69:20) I knew that I would certainly face my reckoning.“ وَمِنْهُمْ مُقْتَصِدٌ  35:32) some follow a middle course. 22. 2 The people on the left: وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ 56:9) those on the left hand - how damned shall be the people of the left hand. The Arabs regard the left hand being a symbol of weakness and indignity. The people who will receive their book of deeds in the left hand will be abased and will be in a miserable condition. أَصْحَابُ companions الْمَشْأَمَةِ the left Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement

23. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah says about the People of the Left Hand وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ 69:25) While he, who will be given his Book of Deeds in his left hand, وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ 69:26) nor known what my account was! يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ 69:27) Would that my death had ended all! مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهْ 69:28) My wealth had availed me nothing, والَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِآيَاتِنَا هُمْ أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ 90:19) But those who disbelieve Our revelations, they are the people of the left hand (going towards hell). 24. 3 The Foremost People: وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ 56:10) And foremost shall be the foremost. The word “ the foremost ” (Sabiqun) refers to the fortunate believers who will be granted special nearness to Allah because they excelled in performing good deeds, as Allah commanded them. They rush towards performing Allah’s command which leads them to earn Allah’s mercy and pleasure. Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement السَّابِقُونَ The foremost

25. Similarly in the other Surahs of the Quran, Allah (swt) says about the foremost believers وَمِنْهُمْ سَابِقٌ بِالْخَيْرَاتِ بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ ۚ 35:32) And of them are some who are , by Allah leave, foremost in good deeds. وَسَارِعُوا إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ 3:133) Rush towards the forgiveness from your Rabb to a Paradise as vast as the Heavens and the earth. سَابِقُوا إِلَىٰ مَغْفِرَةٍ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ وَجَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا كَعَرْضِ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ 57:21) Therefore, hastily strive for the forgiveness of your Rabb and for the paradise which is as vast as the heaven and the earth. 26. Analysis: When the inevitable event will take place, all peoples will be divided into three classes. The foremost in rank and position [Prophets, martyrs and righteous]. The people of the right [common righteous believers]. The people of the left [ persisted in d isbelief of Allah, his messenger the day of judgement and the Quran]. 27. وَالسَّابِقُونَ السَّابِقُونَ The foremost in the rank Section-2 The scenes from the day of Judgement فَأَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ The People of the right وَأَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْمَشْأَمَةِ The people of the Left 3 Classes of People On the day of Judgement

29. أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith.

30. لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُونَ وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ وَحُورٌ عِينٌ كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. V erses 11-26 details the rewards of the muqarrabin [the foremost in faith]

31. 1. Gardens Of Bliss أُولَٰئِكَ الْمُقَرَّبُونَ 56:11) They will be nearest to Allah. فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ 56:12) in the gardens of bliss. ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ 56:13) Most of them will be from the former وَقَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ 56:14) and a few from the later generations. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. الْأَوَّلِين the former people قَلِيلٌ And a few ثُلَّةٌ Majority الْآخِرِين the later people

32. Analysis: Ibn-Kathir, Abu Hayyan, Qurtubi, and Alama Aloossi prefer this interpretation, that the ‘ earlier generation ’ and the ‘ later generations ’ refer to the followers of Holy Prophet’s own Ummah. Earlier Generation: الْأَوَّلِينَ The earlier generation consists of the Holy Prophet(saw) and his companions. Later Generation: الْآخِرِينَ Later generation i ncludes all those who came after the Holy Prophet(saw)and his companions. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith.

33. The Breakdown of the Muqarrabeen The words ( ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ) mean majority of the foremost believers belong to the earlier generation of the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). The words (قَلِيلٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ) mean a small number of the foremost believers will come from the later generation of the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (saw). 34. 2.Thrones Of Gold عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَوْضُونَةٍ 56:15) They shall have the jewelled couches, مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَابِلِينَ 56:16) Reclining on them facing each other. Analysis They will be sitting on the thrones encrusted with gold. They will face each other and none will be in the back lines. مَوْضُونَةٍ decorated مُتَّكِئِينَ Reclining سُرُرٍ thrones مُتَقَابِلِينَ facing each other Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith.

35. 3.Servant of paradise: يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ 56:17) And there shall wait on them the eternal youths بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ 56:18) with goblets, shining beakers and cups of pure wine, لَا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنْزِفُون 56:19) which will neither pain their heads nor take away their senses. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. مَعِينٍ a flowing stream أَبَارِيق jugs أَكْوَابٍ vessels كَأْس cup صَدّ headache يُنْزِفُون they will get intoxicated

36. Analysis: The Youth of paradise will be the servants of the dwellers of paradise. They will never grow old or change in shape. These immortal boys will go around with cups, jugs and glasses of flowing wine. The dwellers of paradise will never get headaches, nor intoxicated from this wine. While the wine of paradise will be free from these side effects, it shall have a delightful taste. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith.

37. 4.Fruits: وَفَاكِهَةٍ مِمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ 56:20) They shall have fruits of their own choice. Young servants will distribute among them the fruit of their choice. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. فَاكِهَةٍ  fruits يَتَخَيَّرُونَ they select

38. 5.Bird Meat: وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ 56:21) And flesh of fowls that they may desire. The servants will serve the Muqarrabeen the meat of birds they desire. The word (يَتَخَيَّرُونَ) and (يَشْتَهُونَ) show that people will be allowed to choose and wish for whatever they want in the paradise. Together with wine, other delicacies such as fruits and bird meat will be served to please their taste buds. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. لَحْمِ  meat طَيْر Bird يَشْتَهُونَ they desire

39. 6.Wide Eyed Maiden: وَحُورٌ عِينٌ 56:22) And dark eyed Houris (damsels), كَأَمْثَالِ اللُّؤْلُؤِ الْمَكْنُونِ 56:23) as lovely as well guarded pearls They will be given wide eyed maiden, who will be pure and untouched like hidden pearl. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. عِينٌ large eyes اللُّؤْلُؤِ pearls الْمَكْنُون well-protected حُورٌ fair ones

40. جَزَاءً بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ 56:24) as a reward for their good deeds that they had done. The verse says that these delights (wine, fruit, meat, women) that we granted them are rewards for the Good deeds they performed in the worldly life. This is the real success achieved by the foremost believers. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith.

41. 7.No vain talk or Sinful Speech Only Greeting of Peace: لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا 56:25) There they shall not hear any vain talk nor sinful words, إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَامًا سَلَامًا 56:26) but only the greetings of "Peace be upon you! Peace be upon you!“ Analysis: P aradise will have a noble environment. Peace and mercy will embrace them from all slides. They will be greeted from God, the angels and from their companions. Section-3 The reward of the foremost in faith. لَغْوً Vain talk تَأْثِيمًا Sinful speech سَلَامًا Peace

42. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah says about their greetings لَا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَاغِيَة 88:11) Therein they shall hear no loose talk. تَحِيَّتُهُمْ فِيهَا سَلَامٌ 14:23) and their greetings therein will be: "Peace!“ سَلَامٌ قَوْلًا مِنْ رَبٍّ رَحِيمٍ 58:58) They will be greeted with the word "Salaam (Peace)" from the Lord of Mercy (Allah). سَلَامٌ عَلَيْكُمْ بِمَا صَبَرْتُمْ 13:24) saying: "Peace be upon you for all that you steadfastly endured in the world. 45. وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْضُودٍ وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُودٍ وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ وَمَاءٍ مَسْكُوبٍ وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ لَا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَةٍ وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَةٍ إِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنْشَاءً Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ V erses (27-40) refer to the description of paradise given to the companions of right hand.

46. وَأَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ 56:27) Those of the right hand - happy shall be those on the right hand! Those on the right are righteous believers who are fortunate to earn paradise. These are people whose accounts will be handed over in their right hand on the day of judgement. They will be lesser in rank and position than the foremost in faith. The Quran explains who are those on the right and what are their characteristics . Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

47. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah(swt) says about the people of the right hand فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ 90:13) It is the freeing of a neck (slave) from bondage; أَوْ إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ 90:14) or the giving of food in a day of famine يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ 90:15) to an orphan relative, أَوْ مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ 90:16) or to a needy in distress; Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

48. ثُمَّ كَانَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ 90:17) besides this, he should be of those who believe, enjoin fortitude, encourage kindness and compassion. أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْمَيْمَنَةِ 90:18) Such are the people of the right hand (going towards paradise). Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

49. أَصْحَابُ الْيَمِينِ Characteristics of people of Right hand. The People of right الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا W ho have Belief تَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ Enjoin Patience تَوَاصَوْا بِالْمَرْحَمَةِ Enjoin Kindness فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍ Freeing A neck إِطْعَامٌ فِي يَوْمٍ ذِي مَسْغَبَةٍ Giving Food during famine Helping people for release from Jail Helping people to pay off debts يَتِيمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍ Orphan Relative مِسْكِينًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍ Needy In Distress The characteristics of the People of the Right Hand, according to Surah Balad (90)

50. 1.Among the Lote-Trees: فِي سِدْرٍ مَخْضُودٍ 56:28) They shall be among the thorn less lot trees. The Lote tree of this life is thorny and carries few fruits. In paradise, it is the opposite; it will have no thorns and will carry plenty of fruits. The people of the right hand will be in the midst of thornless Lote trees in paradise. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. سِدْرٍ lote trees مَخْضُودٍ thorn less

51. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah says about Lote-Tree وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ نَزْلَةً أُخْرَىٰ 53:13) And he (Muhammad) saw him once again عِنْدَ سِدْرَةِ الْمُنْتَهَىٰ 53:14) near Sidra-tul-Muntaha (the Lot-tree at the farthest end of the seven heavens, beyond which none can pass). عِنْدَهَا جَنَّةُ الْمَأْوَىٰ 53:15) Near it is Jannatul-Ma'wa (the rest-house of paradise). إِذْ يَغْشَى السِّدْرَةَ مَا يَغْشَىٰ 53:16) When that Lot-tree was covered with what covered it, مَا زَاغَ الْبَصَرُ وَمَا طَغَىٰ 53:17) his eyes did not turn aside nor did it exceed the limit: Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

52. 2) Banana trees: وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُود 56:29) clusters of bananas, Ibn-Abi Hatim recorded that Abu Said said that ( وَطَلْحٍ مَنْضُود) mean “ the banana tree ”. Ibn- Zayd Added: “The people of Yemen call the banana tree, “طَلْحٍ” Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. طَلْحٍ Banana مَنْضُود Cluster

53. 3) Extended Shade: وَظِلٍّ مَمْدُودٍ 56:30) extended thick shades. There will be a shade everywhere in paradise. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. ظِلّ Shade مَمْدُودٍ Extended

54. Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah (swt) says about shade وَنُدْخِلُهُمْ ظِلًّا ظَلِيلًا 4:57) And We shall provide them with cool thick shade. Hadith: The Prophet(saw) is reported to have said, according to Sahihain, that in paradise there are trees so large that a rider may travel for hundred years under its shades, but would not be able to pass it. 55. 4) Flowing water: وَمَاءٍ مَسْكُوبٍ 56:31) constantly flowing water. The orchard shall be continuously watered so that its freshness and splendor does not decrease. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. مَا Water مَسْكُوبٍ poured forth

56. S imilarly in the other Surah of the Quran, Allah(swt)says about the rivers of paradise مَثَلُ الْجَنَّةِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ۖ فِيهَا أَنْهَارٌ مِنْ مَاءٍ غَيْرِ آسِنٍ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ لَبَنٍ لَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ طَعْمُهُ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ خَمْرٍ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ وَأَنْهَارٌ مِنْ عَسَلٍ مُصَفًّى ۖ  47:15) Here is the parable of the paradise which the righteous have been promised: it has rivers the water of which will never be stagnant, rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of wine delicious to those who drink, and rivers of honey pure and clear. Rivers of waters. Rivers of milk. Rivers of wine. Rivers of pure honey. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

57. 5) Unseasoned Fruits In Plenty: وَفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ 56:32) abundant fruits لَا مَقْطُوعَةٍ وَلَا مَمْنُوعَة 56:33) of unforbidden never ending supply. In paradise, every kind of fruit will remain available in abundance regardless of season. There will be no prohibition or hindrance in obtaining fruit. They will be easy to reach. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. فَاكِهَةٍ fruit لَا مَقْطُوعَةٍ Not Limited لَا مَمْنُوعَة Not forbidden

58. 6. Raised Couches وَفُرُشٍ مَرْفُوعَة 56:34) And will be reclining on high raised couches. The verse describes that the people of paradise shall be reclining on upraised couches. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. فُرُشٍ Couches لَا مَمْنُوعَة Elevated

59. Similarly in the other Surah of the Quran, Allah(swt) says about Raised Couches مُتَّكِئِينَ عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَصْفُوفَةٍ 52:20) They shall recline on couches arranged in rows; هُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُهُمْ فِي ظِلَالٍ عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ مُتَّكِئُونَ 36:56) They and their spouses will be in shady groves reclining on soft couches. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

60. 7.Women of Paradise إِنَّا أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ إِنْشَاءً 56:35) We shall create their wives of special creation. This refers to the virtuous women, who will enter paradise on the basis of their faith and good work. The women of this world will be recreated in paradise. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. إِنَّا indeed we أَنْشَأْنَاهُنَّ Have produced them إِنْشَاءً Into a creation

61. Allah will make them a fresh creation: Young no matter how aged they might have died in the world. Beautiful Whether or not they were beautiful in the world. Virgins Weather they died virgin in the world or after bearing child. If their husbands also entered paradise, they would be joined with them. Otherwise, Allah(swt) will wed them to another dweller in paradise. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand.

62. فَجَعَلْنَاهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا 56:36) And make them virgins. عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا 56:37) Beloved by nature, equal in age. They will be virgin. They will be passionate (brimful of feminine feelings) They will be of equal age with their husband. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. عُرُبًا Devoted أَتْرَابًا equals in age أَبْكَارًا virgins

63. لِأَصْحَابِ الْيَمِينِ 56:38) for those of the right hand. ثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ 56:39) Many of them will be from the former وَثُلَّةٌ مِنَ الْآخِرِينَ 56:40) And many from the later generations. Section-4 The reward of the people on Right hand. الْأَوَّلِينَ Earlier الْآخِرِينَ Later ثُلَّةٌ Majority

64. V erses (38-40) imply that: All of the blessings and bounties, which are mentioned previously will be for the companions of the right hand in the hereafter. A majority of those on the right hand will come from earlier generations and the later generation . This is in contrast to the foremost in faith whose majority will constitute from the earlier generation and minority will be from the later generation . [56:13-14]. 67. وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ فِي سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ وَظِلٍّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ لَا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

68. قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِنْ زَقُّومٍ فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. V erses (41- 56 ) portray the fate of the companions of the left.

69. وَأَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ مَا أَصْحَابُ الشِّمَالِ 56:41) As for those of the left hand - how unfortunate will be the people of the left hand! They are people, whose account will be handed over to them in their left hand on the day of judgement. What is the condition of those on the left? How miserable will the people on the left be? Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

70. 1)Scorching wind :( سَمُومٍ ) فِي سَمُومٍ 56:42) They will be in the midst of scorching winds They will be in intense heat. 2)Boiling water ( حَمِيم ) وَحَمِيمٍ 56:42) And boiling water They will be given boiling water to drink. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

71. 3)Shades of Black Smoke: وَظِلٍّ مِنْ يَحْمُومٍ 56:43) in the shade of a pitch-black smoke. لَا بَارِدٍ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ 56:44) neither cool nor refreshing. They will be under the shade of black smoke which will neither be cooling nor soothing. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. يَحْمُوم Black Smoke بَارِد cool ظِلٍّ Shade كَرِيمٍ Soothing

72. Similarly in the other Surah of the Quran, A llah says about the shade انْطَلِقُوا إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِي ثَلَاثِ شُعَبٍ 77:30) Walk on to the shadow of smoke ascending in three columns, لَا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنَ اللَّهَبِ 77:31) giving neither coolness nor shelter from the flames. 73. The characteristics and conduct of the people of left hand: 1 ) Showing Ingratitude to the blessings and favours of Allah: إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ 56:45) For they lived in comfort before meeting this fate. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. مُتْرَفِينَ Indulge in Luxury

74. Characteristics of the People of the Left Hand They were lost in enjoying life’s pleasures and satisfying their whims and fancies while ignoring the invitation towards the truth. Their prosperity had an adverse effect on them. Instead of being grateful for Allah’s blessings and favours, they had become disobedient and ungrateful to Allah. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

75. 2) Persisting in the Disbelief in Allah: وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ 56:46) They persisted in heinous sins. They persisted in committing polytheism (associating others with Allah is considered to be the greatest sin). Claimed Idols were gods besides Allah. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. حِنْثِ Sin عَظِيم Great يُصِرُّونَ persisted

76. 3) Denying The day of Resurrection: وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ 56:47) And used to say: "When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised to life again? أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ 56:48) And our forefathers, too?“ They reckoned that it was impossible to resurrect them and their forefathers after their bodies would decay and decompose into dust. They denied the resurrection, reward and punishment. They denied meeting Allah on that day. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

77. قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَالْآخِرِينَ 56:49) Tell them: "Surely those of old and those of present age. لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ 56:50) Shall certainly be brought together on an appointed time of a known Day. These verses are in response to their denying the day of resurrection. The verse addresses the Prophet(saw) but the real audience is the disbelievers of Makkah. Allah is reminding the disbelievers that the earlier and later generation of the children of Adam(a.s) will be gathered on the day of resurrection and none of them will be left out. 78. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. Ungrateful to the favours and blessing Persisting in the disbelief in Allah Denying the day of Judgement إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ وَكَانُوا يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى الْحِنْثِ الْعَظِيمِ وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ Life of luxury and comfort in the word Associating others with Allah Raising back to life and accountability

79. 1.Eating From Tree Of Zaqqum: ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا الضَّالُّونَ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ 56:51) Then, "O the mistaken rejecters. لَآكِلُونَ مِنْ شَجَرٍ مِنْ زَقُّوم 56:52) you shall eat of the Zaqqum tree. فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ 56:53) and fill your bellies with it. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. الضَّالُّونَ astray الْمُكَذِّبُون the deniers شَجَرٍ Tree زَقُّوم Zaqqum

80. The deniers of the day of resurrection are addressed with the words [ الضَّالُّونَ: misguided] and [ الْمُكَذِّبُونَ: denier] due to their crimes [polytheism and denial of the hereafter]. They are warned that they will be seized and made to eat from the tree of zaqqum until their stomachs become full. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

81. Similarly In The other Surahs of the Quran, Allah(swt) says about the Zaqqum Tree إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ الزَّقُّومِ 44:43) Surely the Zaqqum tree طَعَامُ الْأَثِيم 44:44) shall be the food of the sinners, كَالْمُهْلِ يَغْلِي فِي الْبُطُونِ 44:45) it will be like the drags of oil. Which shall boil in the belly كَغَلْيِ الْحَمِيمِ 44:46) like the boiling of scalding water. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

82. 2.Drinking Boiling water: فَشَارِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْحَمِيمِ 56:54) And drink on top of it scalding water; فَشَارِبُونَ شُرْبَ الْهِيمِ 56:55) yet you shall drink it like a thirsty camel.“ The verses portray the scene of the punishment of the disbelievers in the Hell. They are told that you will drink boiling water like thirsty camels do. This water will never quench their thirst. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand. فَشَارِبُونَ And drink الْحَمِيمِ the scalding water الْهِيمِ the thirsty camels

83. هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ 56:56) Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Reckoning. نزل refer to the edibles which are presented to a guest as soon as he enters. The tree of Zaqqum and hot water will be served to entertain the disbelievers on the day of resurrection. Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.

84. Punishment Of Criminal هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ الدِّينِ Scorching Wind فى سموم Boiling Water وحميم Shade of black smoke وظل من يحموم Food of Zaqqum tree لآكلون من شجر من زقوم Section-5 The punishment of the people of left hand.
