4. Mechanism action of hydralazine It is a direct-acting smooth muscle relaxant and acts as a  vasodilato r  primarily in resistance arteriole.  By relaxing vascular smooth muscle, vasodilators act to decrease peripheral resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure and decreasing afterload.
