A pooled variance t-test is used when you want to compare the means of two different groups to see if they're significantly different. You use it when: 1. The two groups have similar variances (spread of data). 2. The data in both groups are normally distributed. 3. You assume that both groups come from populations with the same variance. In simple terms, if you believe that the spread of scores in both groups is similar, you combine (or "pool") the variances and then test if the averages of the groups are significantly different.

Let's say you're a teacher and you want to know if two different teaching methods lead to different average test scores. Group 1: You have 20 students who used Teaching Method A. Group 2: You have 20 students who used Teaching Method B. You collected the test scores for both groups and now want to compare the average scores to see if Method A performs better than Method B. If you assume the variation in scores (how spread out the scores are) is roughly the same in both groups, you can use the pooled variance t-test to compare their means (average scores). If the test shows a significant difference, you might conclude that one teaching method leads to higher or lower scores than the other. In this case, you’re combining the variances from both groups into a "pooled" variance to perform the test.
