Stategies that Develop Creative Thinking

OBJECTIVES Gain a deeper understanding of different strategies to develop creative thinking Appreciate the importance of different strategies that foster creative thinking Design strategies that develop creative thinking

“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.” -Albert Einstein

Activating Prior Knowledge ACTIVITY: Have you ever used a specific strategy to boost your creativity? If so, what was it? Can you think of a time when you had to come up with a new idea to solve a problem? What did you do?

Analysis We oftern hear “think outside the box” What does this phrase really mean, and what specific strategies can help us do it? What is the role of failure in the creative process? How can we learn from mistakes and use them to fuel our creativity?

Risk-taking Imagination WHAT IS CREATIVE THINKING AND HOW IT HELPS CHILDREN? Creative thinking is the ability to come up with new approaches and ideas. This critical life skill enables the child to connect the dots and see the bigger picture, and it’s definitely worth developing inkids at an early stage. Creative thinking promotes imagination and concentration. It also enables the children to view the world differently. Types of creative thinking skills that are important for kids: Brainstorming Elaborating Imagery Artistry Adaptability Open-mindedness

WAYS TO ENCOURAGE THINKING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD. Children are instinctively curious. As a parents, you just need to drive their curiosity in the right direction. Creativity needs room to breathe. Give your children a space and some resources. Drive their Curiosity 2. Provide children with free space and the resources

Instead of trying to structure your children’s ideas to fit to your own, try to adapt to theirs. Be open and accept unusual ideas or the “divergent thoughts” from them. It is essential that you let your children pursue creative activities that they enjoy or are naturally inclined to do. Motivating your child to do something with rewards or offering them an incentive for exhibiting creativity is something, which you should avoid. 3. Opportunities to express divergent thoughts 4. Avoid reward strategies

When encouraging creative thinking in early childhood, rather than evaluating what your child has achieved, your focus should remain on the process. Always respond to your children’s questions thoughtfully and enthusiastically. It will urge them to explore more things, which in turn will enhance their critical thinking ability. 5. Focus on the Process 6. Answer them enthusiastically

CRITICAL THINKING VS. CREATIVE THINKING Critical and creative thinking are inter-related, but they are not the same. Creative thinking begins with a single idea and creates various options from that idea. This is known as divergent thinking; you start with a core problem or concept and diverge into creating different choices from it. On the other hand, critical thinking takes information from various sources and synthesizes it into one coherent claim, thought, or solution. This is known as convergent thinking; you use data and information to narrow it down to one final outcome.

Closure Nurturing creative thinking in early childhood is like planting a seed. The right environment and nourishment are crucial for it to blossom into a vibrant, innovative mind. Remember, creativity thrives on freedom, acceptance, and the joy of discovery, not on rigid rules or predetermined outcomes. Let's celebrate their unique ideas, encourage them to experiment fearlessly, and provide opportunities to express themselves through diverse mediums. In doing so, we set them on a path towards a future where they can confidently tackle challenges, think outside the box, and leave their own unique mark on the world.
