Teamwork Well……You can see for your self! Is it necessary?

What is Team Work? Teamwork is the process of getting a task accomplished and goals achieved through the efforts of people working together as harmonious co-operative unit. ……how else could a Circus be possible?

Why Teamwork? Teamwork is vitally important. If teams are developed to perform well, they can: Improve quality and productivity – teams can set up and monitor processes and be mutually accountable for the results. Improve service- a unified and consistent approach to service means that the whole team can focus on meeting customer needs.

What Do High- Performing Teams Do? When a team is performing really well, the members: Set high output and high quality targets Achieve targets and celebrate success Understand each other and appreciate differences Respect each other Are balanced in terms of the roles and skills bring to the team Have responsibility and autonomy to achieve the results.

4 Key Conditions for Effective Team Working Interdependence: Relying on another for support work that is determined or contingent upon another’s work. This result in people feeling committed to the project at hand and hence good result. Leadership: Having the capacity to guide and direct. This will enhance the performance of the team greatly. Remember, good leaders leads by example while the boss drives

Trust: Having confidence in one another’s ability and character. This results in good cooperation among team members. Input To Decision Making: Allowing people to participate by taking decision on how the assignment will be accomplished. This method foster creativity from members. Members who feel their input is valued will develop stronger technical and interpersonal skills.

Why Teams Fail If the teams fail, it is often a result of one or more of the following:- Lack of support No clear purpose No team structure Inappropriate systems Hidden Agendas Conflicting views Dominant v quiet members

Running A Team Session Think about how to use team meetings to get the most out of the team. Here are some tips: Always try to ensure that the creativity and roles of the team are included Let the team members have a chance to catch up with each other. Share progresses and successes. Introduce the discussion topic with background information (give poor notice of this so that they have a chance to develop their ideas)

Make sure everyone has a chance to voice his or her opinion. Use brainstorming buzz groups Keep an eye on the body language of the group checking for signs of impatience, boredom, apathy and enthusiasm. Summarize the thoughts of the group and check this is correct. Specify what decisions have been made and what actions will occur. These may need documenting and circulating Check if there is any unfinished business or other topic which need raising

Review the process of the group what went well, not so well? In this way you are managing not only task issues on the meeting but also the process issues which lead to good teamwork.

Team Effectiveness There is need to find out if your team is performing at its best. There are five areas to look at:- 1) Purpose - Is it clear, understood and taken on with enthusiasm by members of the team? 2) Performance - Do the team members quantify their performance and are they happy with the results? 3) Relationships:- Does everyone know, or at least appreciate, what each is bringing to the team and what are the different roles recognized?

4) Communication:- Are people listening to each other and do they feel confident enough to put forward their own views? 5) Learning:- Does any individual or the whole team need more skills to work effectively?

TIPS FOR EFFECTIVE TEAMWORK These 17 Laws of Teamwork will be very useful for effective teamwork. The Law of Significance (one is small number to Achieve Greatness) The Law of The Big Picture (The Goal is More Important than the Role) The Law of the Niche (All Players have a place where They Add The Most Value)

The Law of Mount Everest (As The challenge Escalates, the Need for Teamwork Elevates) The Law of The Chain (The strength For the Team is Impacted by Its weakest Link) The Law of The Catalyst (Winning Teams Have Players who make Things Happen) The Law of The Compass (Vision Gives Team Members Direction and Confidence)

The Law of The Bad Apple (Rotten Attitudes Ruin a Team) The Law of Countability (Teammates Must Be Able to Count on Each other when it Counts) The Law of The Price Tag (The Team Fails to Reach its Potential when it Fails to pay the Price) The Law of The Scoreboard (The Team Can Make Adjustments when it knows where it stands)

The Law of The Bench (Great Teams have Great Depth) The Law of Identity (shared values Define the Team) The Law of Communication (Interaction Fuels Action) The Law of The Edge (The difference between Equally Talented Teams is Leadership) The Law of High Morale (when You’re winning Nothing Hurts) The Law of Dividends (Investing in the Team Compounds over Time)

CONCLUSION Every Leader should aim at becoming an effective team player. There are many virtues and considerably higher returns from working in teams as opposed to working in isolation. Together Everyone Achieves Much (TEAM)
