About This Presentation

This topic is all about circle. the terms and definitions of related to circle.

Slide Content

CIRCLE A circle is a shape consisting of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point, the center . Equivalently, it is the curve traced out by a point that moves in a plane so that its distance from a given point is constant.

CIRCLE states a shape that consists of points, in a two-dimensional plane, equidistant from a given point. A circle is a closed curve that has no corners or vertices.

Terms Related to Circle

DIAMETER is the length of the line through the center that touches two points on the circumference of the circle.

RADIUS Radius of a circle is the distance from the center of the circle to any point on it’s circumference. It is usually denoted by ‘ R ’ or ‘ r ’.

CHORD A chord is a segment which endpoints are on a given circle.

ARCS Arc is a part of a circumference of a circle. It is named by their endpoints and can be read clockwise or counter-clockwise. The symbol for arc is

TYPES OF ARCS

SEMICIRCLE An arc with a measure equal to one-half of the circumference of a circle. It measures 180 o . It is named using two or three endpoints of the arc.

MINOR ARC It is an arc of a circle that measures less than a semicircle or 180 o . It is named using two endpoints of the arc or three endpoints as long as it measures less than 180 o .

MINOR ARC B D A C

Major ARC It is an arc of a circle that measures greater than the semicircle . It measures greater than 180 o but less than 360 o .

CENTRAL ANGLE A central angle is an angle whose vertex is at the center of the circle. The sides of the angle contain two radii of the circle.

INSCRIBED ANGLE Inscribed angle is an angle whose vertex is on the circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle.

INTERCEPTED ARC Intercepted arc is the arc that lies in the interior of an angle and has endpoints on the angle.
