The case study of Ed and Lorraine W arren

The story behind Ed and Lorraine Warren Ed and Lorraine warren are the most famous demonologists couple which we have encountered ever before, they are known for the involvement within many possession cases such as the Amityville, the Perron family haunting and the Smurl family haunting. The Warrens were among the very first investigators in the controversial Amityville haunting. Edward "Ed" Warren Miney (September 7, 1926 – August 23, 2006) & Lorraine Rita Warren, née Moran, (born January 31, 1927) were American paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Edward Warren was a World War II US Navy veteran  who became a noted demonologist, author, and lecturer. Lorraine Warren, his wife, was a professed clairvoyant and a light trance medium who worked closely with her husband. In 1952, the Warrens founded the New England Society for Psychic Research, the oldest ghost hunting group in New England, and opened The Warren's Occult Museum. They are the authors of numerous books about the paranormal and about their private investigations into various reports of paranormal activity. They claimed to have investigated over 10,000 during their career. The legacy of their work in which they carried out still lives on, cases in which they warrens were involved in have been changed into books, movies etc, within this case study I will analysis and uncover the stories behind some of the most famous cases in which Ed and Lorraine Warren were apart of.

Amityville One of the Warrens most famous cases in which they were apart of is the case of a New York couple George and Kathy Lutz believed there house was being haunted by a violent and powerful demonic presence which eventually took control and forced them to leave their home. There was much conspiracy around this case as many had never encountered anything like this leading them to believe that this haunting was a ‘ hoax’. In December 1975, George and Kathy Lutz and their three children moved into 112 Ocean Avenue, a large Dutch Colonial house in Amityville, a suburban neighbourhood located on the south shore of Long Island, New York. After thirteen months before the Lutzes moved in, Ronald DeFeo , Jr. had shot and killed six members of his family at the house. After 28 days, the Lutzes left the house, claiming to have been terrorized by paranormal phenomena while living there. After weird and strange occurrences within the house, such as the health of the couple deteriorating as well as the children starting to have imaginary friends. After 20 days once the lutz’s family had left the house Ed & Lorraine Warren were called in by Marvin Scott a news reporter with channel 5 NY who had covered the Amityville story and worked on a prior investigation with the Warrens.  A team of reporters, investigators, and parapsychologist’s were assembled by Ed Warren and met at the home at 112 Ocean Avenue, however the Lutz family refused to re-enter the home during the investigation. While Ed and Lorraine investigated the house, Ed was physically pushed to the floor while using some religious provocation in the basement, Lorraine was also overwhelmed by the sense of a Demonic presence and was plagued by her psychic impressions of the Defeo Families bodies laid along the floor covered in white sheets, and a sense of physically being pushed back. The research team also captured an image of spirit that appeared as a little boy peering from the second floor.  The Warrens believed that the suffering there had left the property with a very negative energy and dark history. And that Such a negative history was a magnet for demonic spirits and the preternatural. The Warrens believe these energies directly impacted the lives of both the Defoe’s and the Lutz's.  The Warrens retrieved a handful of the Lutz's earthly possessions and deed for the property The Lutz's sold the rest of their belongings and relocated to California. There has been no further reports of activity from the recent residence of the now 108 Ocean Avenue home  The house that was once purchased for $80,000 in 1975, was recently sold for $950.000.00

Annabelle This demonic doll also one of the Warrens most famous cases, in 1970 a mother purchased an antique Raggedy Ann Doll from a hobby store. The doll was a present for her daughter Donna on her birthday, her daughter was a student working towards her nursing degree sharing an apartment with a room mate, Anngie also studying to be a nurse. After a while Donna Started to notice that there was something appeared to be something very strange and creepy about the doll. The doll apparently moved on its own, relatively unnoticeable movements at first, like a change in position, but as time passed the movement became more noticeable. Donna and Angie would come home to find the doll in a completely different room from which they had left it . Sometimes the doll would be found crossed legged on the couch with its arms folded , other times it was found upright, standing on its feet, leaning against a chair in the dining room. Several times Donna, placing the doll on the couch before leaving for work, would return home to find the doll back in her room on the bed with the door closed.  After noticing these movements it came clear to the girls that this was not only a doll but more. Annabelle the doll not only moved but could write too. About a month into their experiences Donna and Angie began to find pencilled messages on parchment paper that read "Help Us" and "Help Lou". The hand writing looked to belong to that of a small child. The creepy part about the messages was not the wording but the way they were written. This had now taken a effect on the girls and had to be sorted they contacted a spiritual priest Father Hegan , he felt it was a spiritual matter and felt he needed to contact a higher authority in the church, so he contacted Father Cooke who immediately contacted the Warrens. Warrens felt themselves that this object was full of vicious hatred.  When the warrens were driving home with this doll, their car began to swerve and move out of control the belief that it was the rag doll, Ed reached into the back seat into his black bag and took out a vial of holy water and doused the doll making the sign of the cross over it. The disturbances stopped immediately and the Warren's arrived safely home. Occurrence and disturbances to others who came in contact with the doll carried on for years until Ed built special case built for Annabelle inside the Occult Museum, and since then no other cases with Annabelle have occurred.

The Perron Family Haunting In 1971, Roger and Carolyn move into a dilapidated farmhouse in Harrisville, Rhode Island with their five daughters. During the first day, their move goes smoothly, though their dog, Sadie, refuses to enter the house and one of the daughters finds a boarded up entrance to a cellar. Carolyn wakes up the next morning with a mysterious bruise and finds Sadie lying dead outside the house. After a couple of days Carolyn noticed weird occurrences , Carolyn noticing all clocks in the house stop at exactly 3:07.After hearing various clapping, giggling, and seeing the picture frames shattered on the stairs, Carolyn is locked up in the cellar. Right after this, Cindy is awakened after sleepwalking into Andrea's room and is horrified when she sees a spirit at the top of a wardrobe in the room, who attacks Andrea. Carolyn contacts noted paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren for help. The Warrens conduct an initial investigation and conclude that the house may require an  exorcism . While researching the history of the house, Ed and Lorraine discover that the house once belonged to an accused witch, Bathsheba, who tried to sacrifice her children to the devil and killed herself in 1863 after cursing all who would take her land. The property was once 200+ acres but has since been divided up into smaller parcels. They find reports of numerous murders and suicides in houses that have since been built upon parcels that were once part of the property. With mysterious happening within the house such as , Nancy, is violently dragged by her hair along the floor by an unseen force as well as Cindy sleepwalking and furthermore uncovering a secret passage way, . Lorraine enters the passage and falls through the floorboards into the cellar, where she sees the spirit of a woman whom Bathsheba had long ago possessed and used to kill her child, after this the family take control and decide to remove themselves from the house and take refuge within a hotel while Ed and Lorraine collect their evidence, while on there way home there daughter was attacked by the Bathsheba, however arrived on time before any harm could be placed on their daughter. Carolyn , who was earlier possessed by the spirit , takes her daughters, Christine and April, and drives back to the house. Ed, Lorraine, two of their assistants and Roger rush to the house where they find Carolyn trying to stab the youngest daughter with scissors. After subduing Carolyn, Ed decides to perform the exorcism himself, though Carolyn escapes and again attempts to kill her other daughter . Lorraine is able to temporarily distract the possessed Carolyn from killing her daughter by reminding her of a special memory she shared with her family, allowing Ed to complete the exorcism, saving Carolyn and her daughters.
