Rising sense of insecurity “The impact of these closures is immediate and devastating for the towns that have long relied on Tyson as a primary employer. Take Perry, Iowa, for example. When its Tyson pork plant ceased operations on June 28, 2024, the town lost a staggering quarter of its working-age jobs overnight. Imagine the ripple effect: families struggling to make ends meet, local businesses losing customers, and a general sense of uncertainty hanging over the community. Similarly, Emporia, Kansas, felt the sting earlier when its 809-person facility was shuttered, leaving hundreds scrambling for new employment”. 5
