MORENA MOSHOESHOE’S NAMES AND THEIR MEANINGS

Morena Moshoeshoe moved from his home to Botha-Bothe for some reasons: He wanted to have his own nation He wanted to have power He wanted his freedom He disliked some things done by his father He thought his father was greedy MORENA MOSHOESHOE’S MOVEMENT TO BOTHA-BOTHE

There were caves to hide women and children during war at Thaba-Bosiu. It was easy to see enemies from far as it is not attached to other mountains. It was easy to roll rocks at enemies. It was not easy to climb because of its steepness. It allowed settlement as it is flat on top. It had seven passes which were easy to guard. It had eight springs for the supply of water. It was shaped like a cross and had miraculous sand. FEATURES OF THABA-BOSIU WHICH ATTRACTED MORENA MOSHOESHOE ACCESS VIDEO

In building of his nation, Morena Moshoeshoe suggested some strategies to use because he wanted his people to love each other and be one. He liked peace among his people, he chose peace rather than war. The strategies he used include: Matsema system Mafisa system, Mokobobo system, Bahlanka system, Pitso system and Taming of cannibals. STRATEGIES THAT MORENA MOSHOESHOE USED TO BUILD HIS NATION

His people used team work among each other to make work easier. They would perform a certain work within a short period of time and the end result of that would be unity. MAFISA SYSTEM It was loaning of cattle to the poor and to those who had non for survival, to perform some activities like ploughing. The loaned person would get some products like milk and the calves from the cattle. MATSEMA SYSTEM THE STRATEGIES

MOKOBOBO SYSTEM Morena Moshoeshoe gave land to his people and to those who were scattered during Lifaqane, to grow crops and build their own houses. Each of his people owned the land. BAHLANKA SYSTEM In this system Morena Moshoeshoe took orphans and poor children from their families, raised them as his own children, took them to initiation school and paid lobola on their behalf. THE STRATEGIES

PITSO SYSTEM This was the public gathering of Morena Moshoeshoe and his people, where advices were given and ideas were shared on how to end poverty. TAMING OF CANNIBALS This is where Morena Moshoeshoe gave cattle and land to the cannibals. They abounded their habit of eating people and settled with Basotho. Morena Moshoeshoe did not punish them for eating his grandfather, instead, he made them feel accepted in his nation. THE STRATEGIES
